Dread Rings

I needed an ancient-looking style for mine, so I sculpted my own set of dread rings from super sculpey and then made a mold for them. I could have gone with any number of materials such as pvc pipe or napkin rings or even epoxy putty. The possibilities are as limitless as the hunters out there in the Predator universe.

Hey Wizard!! I make my pred rings out of pvc pipe ranging from 1 inch to 3/4 inch in diameter,i cut them to zise and then i use a dremmel to sculpt them into different shapes then i use metallic paints such as gold , copper and silver to paint them using spray enamels from home depot. You can also use super sculpy to sculpt them with any design you want like face huggers, chest bursters etc, Hope this helps...

I made a test ring out of play-doh. Simply made a ring out of the stuff and let it dry for a few days. What I ended up with was a rock-hard ring that could slip onto any dread. You can make them any size and paint them any way you want.
The one thing you have to watch for is that play-doh shrinks, so if you have a dread ring that has to be an exact size, you may have to make more than one at different sizes to get it at the right size when it shrinks.
Another down side to this, they aren't very heavy. If you need weight on the dread to make it move more realisticly, you may need to use something else.

Interesting idea, roundhammer! Might be worth a try sometime.
What I'm using is an idea from Pete Mander. Just that black ribbed plastic tubing that is used to hold electronic wires inside it. It comes in different thickness', so will work for large or small dread parts. Just cut a few sections off (I used 5 'ribs' for the larger rings) and drybrush the color you want on top of the black tube.
The tubes are made split down one side, so that side I place facing inwards to the mask. Can't see it then.

I used 15mm copper pipe couplings. Very shiny, very thin, quite heavy, so they pull the dreads down just fine. Cool thing is, you get them in all kinds of sizes, so you just need to check what size your dreads are. Since I used 15mm backer rod, I didn't even heavy to measure.
