DP Deluxe Vader advice.

So I may be getting a DP Deluxe copy and I wondered what I could do with it...
As I understand it, the helmet is ROTJ stlye and the mask is ESB or ROTJ?
With a new dome from somebody here too complete it, is is possible for me to work the face over to ANH style or are the overall dimensions just too lacking?
I have seen a few members do great ESB stlye but never ANH with the Don Post.

Does anyone have pictures of say a Ghost Host and a Don Post side by side?

Btw. GH if you read this please shoot me a PM because I need to talk about your helmet. :)

Tell me what you can and please be gentle, its my first time thread. :lol

I would say that you can fairly convincingly convert the DP DLX into an ANH - the most notable difference between the two helmets are the chin vent on the face and the widows peak and center strip on the dome.

If getting a new dome, make sure it is either ANH or ESB style, as the RotJ version center strip is different than the two - and would be pointless, as you already HAVE an RotJ dome in the DP dome. :p However... try to stay clear of over-sized ANH domes, as it would look strange on a DP size face. Though, with some work, I would think it possible to be able to convert the actual DP dome into an ANH as well... just sand down the center strip and make a new one and sculpt the widows peak... but remember to customize the dome position, so it'll sit more correctly.

Good luck with your project.

Just choose with caution what you use as reference for your project, as not all fan-made helmets share identical details with the originals.

I can shoot you a pic of my cKing (DP Deluxe copy) next to ny JB ANH V2. I don't "yet" have a GH helmet but that is going to be the next addition to my collection. :)

The helmet in my sig, (sorry for the artistic rendering here) is a DP Dlx cast, and its ESB style. I have to agree with NoHumorMan, becareful with the dome sizing.

Thanks for the tips you guys.

NoHumorMan; Thanks for the sound advice. Now I think I will move forward with the ANH rework/remold thing and I think I have a lead on an apropriate dome.

Darth Kahnt; I would love to see some comparison photos.

CGClone; Nice helmet.

I think I will base my rework on the "ESB Promo" ANH mask. The one with the air brushed cheeks etc.
Does anyone think this helmet is not true to ANH? I am not certain if the sloped mouth, angled nose and mouth slots, are present on actual ANH helmets though I suspect in some degree that they are.

If you mean the same one seen in the ESB movie poster, it's reasonably true to the original ANH.....

Yes thats the one I mean SithLord. It seems to be the highest quality picture of an ANH style around.

When you say reasonably close to original ANH, do you mean that the odd shaped mouth ect is not there onscreen in ANH or just stufff like the airbrushing isnt true to the screen-used mask?

Well, if the ESB poster helmet IS the original ANH screen used helmet, then it has definitely been repainted before that photo shoot. Though... it could also simply be the "new" ESB helmet, cast off the ANH - before it was reworked into the ESB helmet. This is of course only speculation on my part. Though, there is ONE scene in ESB where the helmet has a more ANH style chin vent.

Well I'm getting FatherlessOne metal tusks in the mail and I am getting lenseman lenses soon, what color is is accurate for ESB? Bronze/amber/ smoked?

Also I wonder if there is a chance I could get away with wearing this costume with my 6ft 1 height. Has anyone gotten away with a few inches added in the boots and head and shoulders and come out around 6'5-6'7?

Oh, so you are going for ESB now? I thought you wanted to do an ANH.? I still haven't quite figured out the difference between bronze and amber color, but I've heard several mention that bronze is the more correct looking color for ESB lenses.

I would believe that you could fairly well add a little to the boots to get the correct height.

Good luck with your project.

I am going to do both versions I think. The ANH version is my favorite but I am reluctant to destroy the original ESB/ROTJ look of the DP.
I am getting an ANH style dome from another member here I think and since I plan to largely resculpt the face and neck of the mask, and my own dome, as well as a massive amount of clean up; I think that constitutes "not recasting" the much recasted DP deluxe :)
Look at this thread for the basic idea of what I plan to do to the mask (except for the "run of about ten" part) I will make no profit from my modifications.

I have never done any work like this before though so I dont even know if I can do it. I just would just like to work on my mask and dome without worrying about destroying them.

SO

NoHumorMan;
Yes I dont really get the difference between amber and bronze if there even is one. I think bronze sounds darker.. And if all goes well I'll get the dome and build a new face for the ever evil ANH look and then get the proper red/smoked/amber lenses for proper ANH style.

Thanks for the input

Now lets see those pictures.

The JB derives from a modified 20th Century face I believe?

Yes extra hight is easy with inserts. I use a one inch, full lenght lift inside my boots, they are easy to find on the net. I dont have any probs with room inside as i got boots a size larger to compensate. Looks better than three inch soles :)

Davy, please accept my sincere apologies for not having those pics up yet. I was going to do them but had to attend to some things with my kids and before I knew it the day was gone. I will have them up tomorrow evening at the latest. I'm so sorry.

Definately go with the insert lifts. They look a lot better than the big sole lifts that some folks use. A 6'1" frame should suit the Vader suit well. My buddy wears his vader suit with 1" lifts inside the boots and he's 6' tall flat.. The suit rocks on him. Remember, the dome adds height that you may not think about when designing the suit.
