First off: I was only about 75% happy with the finale. I don't want to get into all of the "they shoulda done this" or "I hated it after the first season." I know people abandoned it for their own perfectly good reasons.
But after all of that, I really liked the characters, the setting, and the weekly intrigue. I also loved the specualtion on here and with "real life friends". I haven't been able to find that in any of the other "mystery" shows.
I wonder if it's because I knew that Lost would have an ending. That it was a finite product that (supposedly) had a plan (even if it ultimately didn't). I think knowing that it would end allowed me to commit to it. I've seen numerous episodic dramas that were good and then just tanked and trailed off into nothing.
My thought is: should shows be created in this way? Commit to almost a mini-series type of thing that maybe lasts 5 years, but at the end you know it's going to end... almost like a book.
Thoughts on this or just missing Lost in general?
