Doctor Who - "The Sound of Drums" TARDIS Keys

I thought this would be an easy set of props to make for those of us who have the ERA TARDIS keys (thanks, mtsbspidey!). Here are some caps:

I'm pretty sure all we'd have to do is just epoxy that black component and some string to the key, and then just add string so it can go around neck to wear (am I missing something?). Any electronic wiz's out there know what kind of part that is attached to the keys, or how to purchase them? I assume it's a computer part as it probably came from Martha's laptop, or maybe her phone.

Hmmm.... that looks like two resistors, maybe one diode and an 8-pin DIL IC. (Not sure if its a 555 timer or a 810 op-amp though) all expoxied to a key....

I ripped open an old (broken) portable radio/cassette player and looked found an 8-pin DIL IC and some other parts that looked good.

Anyone with a more sharper image, we can then identify the IC part and also the resistor and diode values.
