Doctor Fate (Dark Asylum)

Ok, a new project aside from Iron man the infamous and Mystical Dr. Fate I sculpted the original master mold out of ultracal and AVES epoxy sculpt which made symmetry and smoothing a peice of cake hard part was splitting the mold down the center.

At first I didn't know anything about the character but another commission for a helmet looked very much much like doctor fate only altered so I figured I'll use Fate as a base and so I made the fate helmet for that project but I'll post the prototype fate in progress after that other helmet.

There are so many version of Fate's hlmet over the years but nothing I really liked so I put my own twist of Fate, a more sinister and sharper look I wasn't a fan of the smallville version way too dull and bobbleheaded I'v never watch the show either and I didn't much care for the bell shaped DC direct unreleased design so I looked into the comic book designs and used ideas from the comics and just added my own wicked touch to him and I really love the turn out.

After hours of sanding and primering I took some pics before dissecting the mold with a super thin japanese flush saw which took about 8 hours to cut through the concrete but it's a nice solid mold and clean edges.

And here's a prototype Black ABS plastic version the only part I had a little work to fix was the top of the fin/mohawk cause I want a nice flat top rather then the round edges.

Very smith and crisp to say the least

With the Eyes I wanted a nice celestial look not anything simple like every other version of a Fate helmet.

I will try a high impact styrene version after this one is finished figured I'd share this one even though Doctor fate isn't the most popular character it's just a bad-ass halmet.

I might do the rest of the costume some day not sure yet thanks for viewing and enjoy.

That's amazing. It makes me think of how I remember the comics looking.

Pretty much in awe. Are you going to do a gold chrome vacuum process on it?

Thanks, I'm not sure were I can get that done hereor what the cost might be I my just look for a nice gold paint for the prototype get an idea on a finished helmet atleast.

I haven't used this place, but I saw that it's where Volpin had his daft punk helmet done.
Creations n' Chrome .... Experience The Possibilities!

Although, in the comics I remember as a kid, it was not really a shiny gold, more just yellow, so a gold paint could probably work really well.

I'm totally stoked on this project of yours though. He was one of my favourite heroes as a kid.

it looks to me like the version of the helmet after he died recently, and the helmet was posessed by faust. that was a really entertaining story too. so much could have be done with it.

Minor point, but from the comics, I'd think that a more brass-looking finish would be the way to go, rather than gold. The bright canary yellow of Doctor Fate's costume always seems to match his mask, so if you wanted a metallic finish, I'd think that a whiter/lighter yellow metallic color would be the way to go (hence, brass-like). Other than that, it looks DEAD on.

Looks good! Its kinda god a spartan feel to it.
Much better than the smallville version which kinda looks like thick plastic.

Anyways.... good job!

Gorgeous job! I love the celestial look you gave the eyes, and the almost Roman look you gave the mohawk!

would be interested if a run was done, depending on price.

Brass to me is more of an orange/brown kind of finish.

Although, I do agree with the comic being more yellowish. I even remember having one of the action figures from back in the 80's, and it was a bright pale yellow.

Kind of torn right now on what I personally would think would look best. Chrome gold I think is more what I think of in my head, but bright yellow is what the comics would best represent.

Either way, it's just an awesome piece.

Thanks for the positive feed back I'm guessing at this point color is all personal taste or may just need to test a few colors to know what will be the best but so would style of Fate it does have a nice spartan shape and I did bring the mohawk forward to line it with the face based on a ferw comic pics.

Which the odd part is Fate's helmet design always looks more Mediterranean, but the history of the helmet and his powers are from Egypt the helmet of Nabu and he has the amulet of Annubis but I'm glad they made it a more spartan look, as simple as the design is it stands out as one of the cooler helmet designs I only changed the design a little bit to make it a slight different version but not to stray far from the comics and to stay away from the Smallville design as much as possible I didn't want a bobble head I want a wicked more mystic fate helmet hell it's the helmet of a god something terrestrial something like they are doing for the new THOR movies.

What I like about this helmet it will be a great base to multiple future projects cause it can be reworked very easy.

The original helmet I did fate as a base for a custom commission, some addons and modifications.

That looks like a bronze finish to me.

I keep flipping back and forth in my head between the bright yellow, or the gold chrome look.
