Hello, I was wondering if anyone would know how to get a 3d model form the ingame files of dishonored? Maybe there is a model viewer that supports viewing the model directly to get some reference pictures?
Would be very thankful if someone could provide some useful information.

Hey there ArtFx9!
Assuming you're using the PC version of Dishonored, it shouldn't be too hard to extract 3D models from in-game.

There is a great program that can port models from games running DirectX 6-9. It's called 3D Ripper DX, and it's really easy to install and use.
You can pick it up here: 3D Ripper DX

You can check out the tutorials there too; they're super helpful.

From there, once you've installed it and pulled the models, there are a couple routes to go about for getting the specific models you want.

1) You can use a freeware program to open up the .obj file you can export from 3D Ripper DX. For that, I use Blender. You can get that here: http://www.blender.org/. The only problem is that you'll have to fix the skew on the ripped file. It's possible, but VERY tedious and inexact.
OR
2) You can use an old version of Autodesk's 3DS Max to import the file directly as a .3dr file. For that though, you need to buy the software... (Or you could torrent it... Not that I suggest piracy or anything of the sort, it can just give you a place to get a demo version that works with the Ripper so you can look at an unskewed model for a bit.)

If possible, the second method is much less painful than the first. You could have the model, unskewed and in all of its beauty, in around 15-20 minutes this way. With the first method, depending on the orientation of the in-game camera (which is used to get the picture in the .obj file), it could take anywhere between a half hour and 3 days.

Hopefully this helps you out. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Best of luck!

-Pierce
