Did I miss the Dr Who Thread

Your problem is the season in the US ended last night and the season in england ended at the end of June. There was only one thread for discussion, and it's been silent since about the 3rd of july, so it's no suprise you missed it :)

I loved the finale' last night - and the whole season. They were dealt a tough hand with a 2 year layoff and the send off to Tennant, but they knocked it out of the park, so to speak :)

I was worried a bit that Amy was going to be another in the series of one year companions (martha and donna), but the end gave me the answers i was hoping for. The only downer is waiting until april for the next season :)

I was hoping her marrying Rory would be the end of her. Her voice bugs me. But as long as Rory's sticking around as well it's all good. It's cool to have a guy tagging along for a change.

that's called a scottish accent my friend :D

No, it's not her accent, it's something else in there. The tone of her voice maybe. I didn't care for her attitude, either. :lol

I think you'll find you're in the minority there :)

Most people lover her attitude. No-nonsense and take charge.

I liked her dynamic with Rory fine, just not with the Doctor. But hey, the next season they'll be set into their characters really well, and with any luck we won't have any more episodes of the "Victory of the Daleks" caliber.

I thought the implication of the finale' was also the beginning of the actual relationship with River, too, for next season.

I dunno, for me the characterisation of Amy seems to begin and end at "mouthy scottish girl". I find her pretty offputting.

Maybe, id still "sort" her though.

I thought this season has been amazing, and from some of Moffats comments, there were little hints (possibly big in your face hints) towards a major twist in the next season.

Im hoping for another future doctor with amy telling her to trust him type moment

I just like that the solution to the issues in the finale were seeded through the entire season. It wasn't like with RTD pulling something out of his ass to make it all go away, saving the Doctor had been established how to do it for almost the whole season so it fit perfectly and the viewers could figure out how to do it before he did anything about it.

I'm a bit bummed there are already rumours of Matt Smith leaving. He's on for two seasons, but that's still a short stint. OK, not the shortest...but short.

Amy? Mouthy Scottish girl? I can tell you from experience that mouthy Scottish girls can be *awesome*. Eh, mouthy's a bad word though; makes you think of chavs and hoodies and grimy estates and all that. Amy's not that, for starters she's got wit.

She's worth any ten grimy-estate-dwellers (Rose Tyler, I'm looking at you). :p

I thought part 1 of the finale sucked, frankly. It was slapdash and slapstick and had a feel of being a little thrown together. On the other hand, part 2 took the setup given in part 1 and turned it all into pure gold. Didn't hurt that it was frequently hysterical!

Kind of the opposite of the average RTD 2-parter, hehe.

I've become used to the way RTD did things and loved the last minute solutions. It actually made the Doctor is a genius thing make sense. He did jack this season and I found it relatively boring. Also, Moffat's "Doctor Who is really a fairy tale" stuff is super annoying. Doctor Who has always been and should remain sci fi. You know what was a good fairy tale TV show? Pushing Daisies. And that's all.

The season definitely had some duds in it, but I adored the first episode and adored the whole finale, so overall I'm a very happy camper. Of course, Troughton is my doctor, so Matt Smith's doctor is really delighting me by pulling in a lot of the qualities I see there, especially his kindness. And I'm very happy to see a proper team of companions again. Overall, Moffatt has really pushed my buttons in all the best ways. :)

And not to start one of "those" Doctor Who debates, but one of my all-time favorite serials is "The Mind Robber", which is about as fairy-tale as you can get. :) Nor was the Doctor always the over-the-top genius of Tennant's era - Troughton was frequently quite bumbling, and what was it Zoe said at one point... "The Doctor is almost as clever as I am"? There was more of a balance between Doctor and companion. I think that Moffatt is just reaching deeper into the show's past for inspiration, and that does provide a contrast to the more recent stuff.

"Proper team"...ecchhhh...oh damnit, I have to say this: OK, I was wrong about Rory.

I mean I disliked him through most of the season, he was a bit of a, well, not an Adric but he was definitely in Mickey territory.

He *really* came good in the finale though, didn't he? No chance of disliking him after that. :thumbsup

Oh, I fell in love hard with Amy Pond and her accent, attitude, and all. There were times when I felt that she was channeling Donna - particularly when she was encased under the slab and got shushed by the other character. "Did you just shush me?!"..

I did feel Rory to be a weak character, but they really developed him over the course of the season. I especially liked the wandering soldier arc. Hopefully he's got more confidence and balls going into the next season.
