Defying Gravity's Nod to SW Cantina / Derwent / IG-88?

It might just be me, but did anyone else notice the little nod to Star Wars on Defying Gravity (ep. 104) this week?

The flame tube isn't a a perfect match, but I suspect it's placement in the bar was not a mistake.

And yes, I realize that a bar such as this, being so close to anything aviation/space travel, may have jet memorabilia on display, but I still think it maybe a small nod to the Mos Eisley Cantina :)

A new sci-fi/drama on ABC.

Thanks for the head's up.
I just watched the first episode. Not bad. I'll have to catch up.

I can't speak for the 4th episode, but the EVA pack used in the pilot has 4 R2-D2 holoprojectors and thrusters. It seems the props guys are SW fans.

It's a little slow, but got potential, and not many prop replica opportunities yet - but maybe that will change :D

the set production team where the BSG staff so they've got some quality people there.

I'm enjoying it very much. I like the crafting of the scripts. it feels very tight, ie they know what they're doing and not flailing around like LOST did. and the cast interplay is great. you really get the feeling they've been working and training together for years

I am reluctant to try to get into this show. It was pre-sold with this obnoxious "sex in space!" ad campaign, which I found off-putting (tho I suppose that's just ad hype and has nothing to do with the show itself... still, hard to forgive).

The show repurposes CG effects done a few years ago for a British docu-drama called "Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets", which as I recall was a fairly straight ahead dramatization based on real science, with a fictional storyline stitching it together.

When I did check in on one of Defying Gravity's later episodes, folks were hallucinating while spacewalking on Venus, while the space agency tried to cover-up by switching to pre-taped "moon hoax" style footage. :lol

I watched the first few episodes and thought it was horrible. Basically Grey's Anatomy, set in space instead of a hospital.

Didn't give a crap about the overly pretty astronauts or their tedious romantic involvements, and Ron Livingstone's dreadfully cod-philosophical voice-overs were retch inducing.

Not surprised it was cancelled, I really can't see what audience this was pitched at. Sci-fi is expensive, and not generally not partically appealing to the audience this seemed to be written for, ie chicks.

I watched the first 8 episodes and they were pretty bad. It just seems like nothing ever happens on the show. How many weeks of the crew having the same hallucinations over and over do we have to endure before there's forward movement on the storyline? Way too boring. I also found it tedious that we only ever see the same handful of locations (bar, mission control, spaceship). I'm sure production would have gotten better in a second season (with more budget), but the writing was just terrible.
