Definitive List of District 9 Alien Guns

I had my question answered: the SMG IS a cut-down AR casting with a targeting computer added and the small rectangular mag instead of the canister mag. It was built specifically for use in the MNU testing scenes.

I also hear that the book has extensive coverage of the helmet designs. Squee!!!

Greg Broadmore mentions that in the SDCC link I posted above. I actually make an appearance at about 4:10.

Yeah I know; my question was whether a specific mould was ever made for it, to which the answer is no, it's a one-off.

Oh - that was you, lol!

Here's some good interviews with Greg Broadmore.

Thanks for posting these. Some very inspirational work there, and Greg Broadmore seems like a nice guy. I had no idea they'd turned Dr. Grorborts into a comic book. I'll have to pick it up.

So has anyone heard about whether or not Weta Rayguns is doing the Sonic Wave Gun. They did a great job on the full size Arc Gun.

Hope so but looks like it's backburnered. Shame, sure looked like there was enough demand.

Hey all!
I'm thinking after completion of my Fallout 3 plasma gun I want to do a castable version of either the teleporter or the organic retriever... What one would you guys be more interested in seeing (or buying.. )

Wow, both are really cool!!

It seems to me that the teleporter would be a more intricate build?

Depending on final pics and price I'd buy both!

Interested in whatever you make!

Thanks

Brad

Thanks for the encouragement Darth.. I'm torn because I like the complexity of the teleporter.. but weta already made a model of that.. where as the organic matter collector I haven't seen as a real-life build. Plus the original concept art it comes with a backpack full of 'specimen jars'

I just want to see more of the District 9 heavies done properly...

Also the organic matter collector was originally intended as a vacuum of sorts you can like jam into a cow and suck out it's innards.. so maybe there's a retractable needle that pops out when the trigger is pressed half way, and then a full press turns on the suction.

I keep on thinking back to Starship troopers after they capture the brain bug.. in the television segment it shows a 'censored' image of a drill of some kind being violently shoved up it's mouth/vagina thingy by a scientist.

Very unsubtle piece of technology!

Definitely though the more people who express interest the more chance I would make sure to do it as a castable unit.

Could probably make it anti-recaster too if I ship it already glued together etc.. lot's of negative drafts on either of them... Then again shouldn't taunt the vultures.. they usually find a way...

I have a Rhino file of the organic retriever in the works. Was going to 3D print it at 1/6, but it could be useful for CNC possibly. I am right with you - the D9 heavies are all kinds of awesome.

It's simply a heavy machine gun now though, canonically. Or at least when you see it fired in the film, that's what it seems to be.

Did they fire either of these in the film? Extended version clips or something? Did they have the prop and use it in a different function (machine gun) as opposed to it's original purpose?

Would definitely love to have the 3D file for it thanks Nwerke! Will pm you my address.

I'm kind of leaning towards the organic matter retriever just because the teleporter was already built by weta.. I don't think they ended up building the retriever (at least I can't find anything on it). I want to try and conquer new territory. That being said.. I like how much detail the teleporter has. Plus, I just got my milling machine built so I'm itching to mill out gray body plates on the teleporter with the support ribs on them... Then again the retriever comes with a backpack (maybe mount it onto white MNU armor?)

hmm maybe not.. I just found a screencap in this forum (i see the thumbnail on google images but the actual link's broken) of the organic retriever.. Anyone know of any shots of the retriever prop besides that blurry screen cap? Seems kinda silly they wouldn't have shots of the prop if they made one..

Yup, that's what I'm saying - both props were built; there are good pics in the art book and other publicity shots that came out at the time. The OR is used in a number of shots in the film, and fired - as an MG. Gotta go offline, big day tomorrow. Will post shots and info if nobody beats me to it!

Yes, they built the Organic Retriever. It was supposed to be used in the scene where Wikus shoots the gangster but they changed weapons and used the Alien Medical Tool instead.

The Organic Retriever also has a backpack associated with it. You can see it as a background prop in a few scenes.
