Deckard's Trench Coat

The collar looks funny.

A common misconception is that the collar is made of cordoroy but in fact it's just a fine quilting. The Abbey shot looks like the collar is made of a different material than the rest of the coat but I can'ttell if it's cordoroy or not.

It's a bit odd that they don't feature a shot of the collar in the gallery, since that's such a distinctive feature of this coat. :confused

I agree that the coat looks a little off. I wonder if the miracle fabric "Mercury Threads" could have anything to do with it.

It might just be the fact that the coat's brand spanking new and very brightly lit.

Button sizes are off. The main buttons should be a little bigger and the auxillary buttons smaller.

Also I hope that the collar is contructed correctly. There should be two buttons on both the left and the right sides of the neck. This is for the collar straps to button to. Doing so will either close it up tight aroudn your neck or if using the left side buttons gets the straps out of the way. The straps seem a little short or too fat. The holes are definately too big. The button sizes problem is also causing the holes in the collar straps to be much too big. The collar straps seem out of proportion to me.

The color does seem a little off but almost a bigger gripe for me is the syntethic fabric. It just doesn't hang or bunch up the same way as the real fabric. While I'm sure it is very practical, it's Far too pretty for my dark, dank cyber punk loving butt. I want that trench drenched and wrinkly.

I'm glad there is finally a Bladeruner coat available but some pretty big misses in book were made company that is usually pretty good about getting it right. Seeing as they have been promising this coat for years it boggles the mind how off the details are.

I guess maybe they put practical wearability over screen accuracy on their list of priorities. Deckard's real coat looks as if it soaks up water just fine.

So when does AbbyShot release its Deckard Trenchcoat Version 2? :p
 
I'd like to revise my previous post to read, "everything that Nick Daring said." :D

Has anyone heard anything from David regarding his version of the trench? Haven't heard anything from him in quite a while.

They have used models in the past, why they didn't model this one is beyond me. They could have got a nice steamy shot of an alley and stuck there model there with a beat up version of this jacket..

You know I even sent them some pictures of this damn thing that clearly showed the details Nick pointed out.

Obviously they needed to hire Nick to spearhead this project, if they did it would have been awesome...

I'll make you famous one way or another Nick.

They mentioned to me that they were having problems getting material, and they they were going to try and find out what the original was made of. Nick, do you have any idea what kind of material it was?

I guess they got the closest they were able.

I just don't like what they produced, at least not based on these photos. The collar, or lack thereof, was the first thing that grabbed me too. :unsure
 
Aw shucks.

Gripes aside, I too want to see some better pics as well.

Also, have seen a bit of the development of their Matrix coats, They aren't afraid to conituously revise an item until it's done right. Hopefully they'll see this thread and make the proper adjustments.

I suggested last year at DC that AbbyShot make this coat...we emailed back and forth after that and
I sent them as many pics as we could dig up at the time over the course of a few months.
They real deal looks good...however, I did see some things that could change..the material is bad ass though...the guy poured some water on it and it just rolled around like mercury...and it is not scotch guarded...I say all in all they hit it 85%.

This wasn't just suggested just last year. This is a project that they started when the company was still called Trench Co. way back when. The fact that they can't count buttons in pretty silly in my opinion or look at the stitching in some of the most easily attainable photos. It's pretty good but for the price and the time they've been working on the piece it should be dead on.

This coat's been a sort of Grail for me since the mid 90s. I think I was told (either by Abby or TrenchCo, I don't recall who to be honest) that the material they used in the film was either 40 years old or dated back to the 40s. Either way, it's unlikely an identical material will be easy to find, if it's possible at all.
There's a Far-Eastern company does a replica, too. This is how desperate I was feeling. They sent me some fabric samples late last year but it was way off so I didn't lay down the funds.
I'm kind of glad now, I've written to Abbyshot a few times over the years so it'd be rude not to invest in one once the details are fine-tuned.
I think I'll be washing mine and crumpling it up as soon as I get it, might ruin the weatherproofing, though. I think half the problem with Abbys' is that it's pristine whereas in the film it looked like it'd been put through quite a lot.
 
The more I look at it, the more I think it's way too "orange" looking.

A little creative license to make it darker would have been acceptable here, no? :angel
 
Hey Everyone,

Thank you for all of the comments and observations. This is why we like to hear from the fans: no one is as much of an expert about such things as the devoted fans are. I'm willing to bet that you guys know more details about Blade Runner than the people who originally worked on it 25 years ago. :lol

Some of your concerns are design aspects that we have already addressed, they just didn't show up in the inital set of photos we had available for the release of the product. Things like the details of the collar design for example, there are buttons to hold the collar tabs in place when done up as well as to button it in the folded back position. We have another photo shoot planned and we are intending to also use a model for it. Design aspects like the collar will be made more obvious to remove any possible confusion.

Some of your other observations are quite valid and we'll be addressing them at our Design Team meeting early next week. As we have done in the past, we welcome fan involvement. Please feel free to email us with specific comments. We'll be posting an update on this forum next week that will address each of the points raised here. Our goal is to have as perfect a replica as is feasible. Already, I feel that our current version is miles ahead of any other available recreation, and with everyone's help we'll bring it even closer.
 
Wow, very awesome that you guys are open to constructive criticism. Looking forward to some more shots. I know that I'll be saving my pennies for this one. Now if I could just find that freaking shirt and tie. :p
 
I knew you'd guys would come through.

Can't wait to see the final product. All of your other coats are fantastic and the development of each one has been a pleasure to watch as you DO respond to criticism. Sorry if any of my posts before sound whiny. I just want a digity dang perfect coat.
