I have a graphic which is a western font on a black background.when printing I get great results on paper, photo paper but on decal sheet its a crackled, smeared mess.Im using an Epson printer with Testors white decal sheet and my graphic is set at 300 dpi to hold up the detail.
Am I setting this job up too dark with the black?
Im trying to match the Krylon black paint on the kit.
any help from The RPF decal guru's would be appreciated.

I'd say the black is too heavy, and as it dries it pulls up, causing the crackling.

Only thing I can suggest is trying to reduce the CMYK components as best you can to still get a rich black, but without as much ink You definitely don't want a 100/100/100/100 mix - something like 10/13/50/100 might not leave such a mess - but you'd have to experiment.

under your printer settings, try setting it to "print transparency"
it should slow the printer down, and keep it from dragging the colors

also, if you can adjust the quality of the print, choose "best quality"

also, see if you can select the paper type...

hope all that helps

well gave it another shot and found no good way to print from this Epson.
It does not have a transparency setting and no other setting or paper type improved the job.:crythe good news is I can wipe the decal paper from the offending ink with out too much damage.
The one scenario that did work was taking the disk to a professional printing house and having them run the job on their laser jet ,that worked very well its just tough to find the paper.
thanks for the input

I was going to ask if you had the right paper or not. Seeing as how you said it worked fine when you had the print place laser print it for you seems to indicate you might not have had decal paper designed for an inkjet. There is a very big difference.
I also only use white decal paper if there is white in the image I want to print. Clear works best for me on most things I do.

Im using Laser decal paper from the bare metal people.
I ran this job recently with perfect results. Then went and bought a stack of it @3 bucks a sheet and now Kinkos cant run the job without the ink getting all over everything.same paper, shop, source, and laser printer and it just doesn't work now for some reason.I even went to two separate shops and got the same crap results.:angry
what is the trick with this stuff how can it work one day and just Fail the next?

When you tried printing it at home on the Epson, with the inkjet paper, what program were you using? I print straight out of photoshop, and the driver for my epson R200 DOES have a setting for doing transparency. Maybe update your print driver and see if that adds a function for you.
Only other thing i can think of is to take off all that black border. If you are trying to match a color on the model, i would think the less of it you had on a decal to draw attention to a possible mis-match, the better. Try just doing a thin, 4 or 5 point, stroke of black around the edges. Just enough to see where you have to cut it out. Only othe thing I can think of off the bat, is try a different paper. "Micromark" has a decent set that i have used before.
