When the news broke that you had acquired Lucasfilm, the company that played a large role in defining my childhood as well as my adult life (look at the site I am posting this on), I was devastated. Let me be frank; I don't like you very much. I don't like your approach to business, your approach to franchises, or your approach to fans. To be fair and honest, George Lucas had all but killed Star Wars for me with many of the horrendous decision made in the prequels, culminating in the travesty that was Episode III (don't make me pull out the Franken-Vader clip), but still, I love Star Wars and probably always will. It has survived, largely due to the fans and Lucasfilm's handling of the fans for well over 30 years. But soon after Episode III we saw a tremendous drop off in Star Wars within all the circles I frequent and I even declared Star Wars all but dead myself.... and it would have been dead if not for you.
When you acquired Lucasfilm, I felt like that was the final nail in the coffin. When you announced new movies, I wasn't moved very much. When you announced Rebels, I cringed and felt like you were giving us nothing but the horribly predictable homogenized crap we are used to seeing from you...
Last night the first real photos from Episode 7 "leaked." Now, I don't know if that was your doing or if they really did leak, but for the first time, we got to see what you were up to, and it is amazing. Now, I am not going to predict the success or failure of an entire movie on two photos, but you are headed in the right direction! More importantly, the release/leak of those two photos brought the Star Wars fans out of the depths like fresh blood draws a hungry shark, and with it brought a TREMENDOUS amount of insider information about what you are really up to with out beloved franchise. If even a tenth of what I have read and been told is true, you are the best thing to happen to Star Wars since the Empire Strikes Back! As much as I appreciate "the creator," he could have never put together the plan you have for this franchise and YOU will be the ones that carry it on and truly pass it to future generations as well as help some of us who are getting a little older fall in love with it all over again.
With all of that said, I have one last thing to say; thank you, Disney. Thank you for pulling the franchise that I love out of the murky obscurity that it had been slipping into. Thank you for breathing new life into it and giving it a new direction. I am sure I won't love every step along the way, but I am truly coming to appreciate your overarching vision and what you are providing us fans.
A fan you are very quickly winning over.
PS. Hurry up with the Boba Fett movie.
