Davy Jones Work in Progress

So I've always been a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but look nothing like any of the characters (Except maybe Turner, but really. Who want's to be Orlando Bloom?) When the second one came out . I thought Davy was an incredible character, but had no idea on how to do a costume (nor time or financing as a newly wed poor college student)

Few years later, my wife and I are attending a get together with a bunch of our friends from a Renaissance Faire we frequent, and the idea came up of doing all the main characters from the Pirates movies as we already had a superb Jack and Barbossa... So the idea of doing Davy came back into my head again... so I decided to start there, with the head.

All credit for this absolutely FANTASTIC Mask goes to Antcarb here on the forums. I know he has posted pictures of his Davy mask in other threads before, but seriously, the amount of detail and time he put into this thing is jawdropping. Easily the best (and most comfortable) latex mask I've ever worn. Huge shout out to Ant, as this is not something I could even approach doing on my own. I'm not nearly that artistic. Go check out his work, search Antcarb in the forums. You'll be impressed.

Mask out of the way, I moved to the things I COULD do on my own... Claw, Coat and props.

For the claw, I used EVA foam mats from Lowes and made two sets of "Shells" upper and lower for the claw. Lots of hot glue from a glue gun along with heat shaping from a heat gun and I wound up with something workable.

Then it was just a matter of layering Spraypaint

The other fun prop I already actually had, and that was Davy's music box. Few years back just after 2 came out. I made one for my wife as a Christmas present and she is such a wonderful person that she lends it to me for the costume.

All that is really left is the coat, which I basically need to get Gold fabric paint for and touch up details on. Took scissors and a knife to it to shred the back end and make it look tattered like his old one. Dunked it in mud and had the dog drag it around the back yard for additional weathering.

More progress to come, but here is the teaser I made after getting the claw finished. Now with a fixed link!
