This is my first project. I'll post more information as I go, right now I'm just getting the thread started.

Attached: First build using standard printer paper, to see how the model comes together.

Quick update.

I built most of the mask's shape. The rest of the work is going to be on the details of the face. I also started on the helmet, because it uses a lot of the large paper pieces that are clogging up my workspace.

I'm glad that I get to spend some time on this project today. :)
The whole thing is starting to come together!

My pictures aren't great, and its kind of hard to get an idea of the overall shape...since my ad hoc head model doesn't support everything very well...but when I hold the shape in my hands it seems to be forming very well. :D Pretty excited.

Just checked out omel's build, and it looks amazing! I'd be so happy if mine turned out half as well.

Here's some more progress shots:

The whole build, kinda propped up for the pic:

I made this from standard printer paper. Is there anything that I can paint on the model to give it some stiffness? I'd like to have it hold it's own weight better before I start adding details. I'm thinking of cutting pieces of slightly thicker card paper to glue over key areas like the details in the cheeks, around the eyes and over the center rib in the dome.

Epoxy-Resin for example.

But from my own experience you've better startet with thin cardboard or thick paper.

The problem is that the whole thing may collapse if you try to resin it!

Wow, it looks kinda scary with that big gap... It kinda looks like a mouth. XD

xD
I have a picture on my cell that is all blurry, and you could easily mistake the model for Homer Simpson.

I think I got a lot put together today. I didn't think the bars along the sides of the mask would form correctly with the paper I'm using, but it turned out much better then expected. This is probably due to the amount of tape I used.

Some final pics, before I call it a night:

I think that the pictures make the model look really bad. My lighting and flash bounce off the tape and angles and make it look really messy. I might have trouble later on, but so far it seems that the more I build the sturdier the whole model gets. I am using clear scotch tape instead of glue, which I see most pep builders using...This happened because it was all that I had laying around, and after I printed the pieces, REALLY wanted to get started!
I'm not too worried about this model failing on me. If it does, I already have a good feel for the structure and know that a second build will turn out much better. I'm looking at this as a test of the model to compare it, in scale, to my head and such. Although if it does end up rather sturdy, and gives me something to work on..then who knows.

Here's the link to the models I am using in pepakura:

Thanks for the support guys! I look forward to many hours browsing through RPF!

I realized something...
I don't think im using that latest version of the helmet by Fierfek. The one in the link posted looks very different...There are details between the eyes and a much cleaner mouth area. I haven't opened the pep file up to compare the actual geometry yet, but I think I may be remaking the helmet using the new model and cutting out fewer panels. I'll also use a thicker, coated card stock that I have. One of the most important areas that I want to make prominent are the sharp edges around the cheeks and the geometry that leads into the mask triangular front section. These areas scream Vader to me and I won't be happy unless they are how I want them.

See in this image that the panels that make up the cheeks are much simpler then mine:

This view of the model makes me wonder if I would be able to build the face mask without the side pipe structures (I am not going to pretend that I know every name for every part of this helmet...I'm learning a lot though :p), then create them with some plastic pipe or something...I just don't know if modeling these out of paper/card would be the best way to go about it.

I'm using this image for overall shape, surfacing and details.
My goal now is to make something, that in the end would be able to stand in, for this shot, without looking too off:

Not sure if this link will work, but my phone uploads pics automatically to this album:

Once again, thanks for the support!

Quick update:

Finished the outside of the helmet's dome. Came out really good, considering all the contours.

Here's a pic (it's crappy, but you can see the progress):

(Damn if I rotated that can I could be getting royalties!)
