Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 4/7/13

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 2/25/12 Helmet Adjustments Begins..

Chris, I don´t think that you should compare it too religiously to the game model with it´s very, very low poly count.

I can´t see anything that´s wrong with your current sculpt?

Oh I'm not going to that extreme, if I was going to be that way, i would have never put clay on the thing in the first place :lol

It's small details really, but it's the combo of making it in real life that's a headache. I can sit here and point out all the flaws in accuracy and that's why I feel it needs adjustment. I was gonna do this anyways, but might as well do what I can with clay, so it'll be less work after I mold it.

Anyways, the supplies came in, but they failed to tell me that they had to order the urethane rubber elsewhere (which will arrive Friday or monday) and almost gave me a heart attack...

Is it ok to make another suggestion? tell me to shut u if you like but i was thinking the tear drop on the side could be a bit bigger :)

Oh I know, I was going to be reworking these after it's cast. I need critiques!

Hey Chris! Good to see you picking up this armor again! I followed your thread over on TDH (TK-1221), and I'll be following it here!

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 2/25/12 Helmet Adjustments Begins..

Looks great so far! I used to love jetpacking up and blasting people using the Darktrooper in BF.

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 2/25/12 Helmet Adjustments Begins..

Me two! I need to get back on the game...it's still fun!

When I get off work tonight, I'm gonna go ahead and try and finish the corrections that are needed. I need to have this ready by monday as I need to appy the sealer, which I'm sure needs to sit over night. That way I can begin molding by tuesday!

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 2/25/12 Helmet Adjustments Begins..

nice one dude good luck and keep us posted!

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 2/25/12 Helmet Adjustments Begins..

Man, I remember reading about this on TDH back in the day. Glad to see you are still keeping it going. I want to see this thing finished.

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 2/25/12 Helmet Adjustments Begins..

It will be!!

Didn't get the chance to finalize the corrections today, gotta to to Orlando to tomorrow for the weekend so had to take care of things before I go. Depending on what time I get home Sunday, I'll have to work on it then or drag it out to monday. It's a matter of making things symmetrical right now...

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 2/25/12 Helmet Adjustments Begins..

Still working on the fixes. IDK, I feel no matter how much I change, I find something else to work on. I think I just need to settle with it at some point. I've closed up the areators portion, fixed the "tubes" on the forward sides of the face (Where they line up with the point end of the frown) and almost done with the 2nd eye. The actual teeth portion, I could not get it to where I wanted (and cleanly) so I filled it up except for the center to use as a starting point. All in all, I am starting to realize just how much more work is necessary post molding. I just hope I can get it to where I want it...

I'm getting worried about the strength of the helmet now, mainly the outer edges. I'm going to be doing some more fiberglass reinforcement, tomorrow at the latest. I don't want the piece to warp when molding. It's not that bad but I don't want to chance it.

It's looking good dude! Yeah I agree you can you play around with the details forever. If you're at that stage its probably time to moudl the beast!

If you layer up the silicone you should be ok strength wise but it never hurts to over build!

good luck

Yea, I'm just gonna fix the eye and the one ear cap and then it's molding time

I was going to fiberglass some more today, but I just evaluated it. Since I had used expanding foam to fill the void and "strengthen" it, it's almost impossible for me to lay fiberglass properly without have to try and rip out some of the foam. At this point I'm fed up with the mistake I've made of the base that I'm just going to mold it as is and it'd be more advantageous for me to deal with it after it's cast.

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 3/6/12 Still fixing it up...Mold supplies in

can't wait to see the result go crazy dude

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 3/6/12 Still fixing it up...Mold supplies in

First layer of rubber snot is on. Really hope I mixed it right...

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 3/6/12 Still fixing it up...Mold supplies in

Alright, well the mixing and brushing phase is done. Gotta let it sit overnight and then make sure its fully cured before I can put the mother mold together, which I'm hoping to do tomorrow night, possibly even try making a cast! I'll post pics shortly...

Re: Darktrooper Progress Thread update: 3/9/12 Main mold made, mother mold tomorrow!

There ya go, the world's ugliest helmet and the world's ugliest mold, in one...

On my way back from a 501st event. Gonna be making the mother mold once we get back. Time permitting, make a cast!
