Been a very long time since Ive posted my work here, but Ive seen a lot of great and helpfully tips coming from the community so I though Id see what you all had to say about my latest work.

I'm doing this piece for college as one of my final works before I'm finally done. Ive never completed a likeness sculpture past this stage. I plan to cast in silicon and try my hand at punching hair. This is a learning experience, but I still want everything to be as perfect as can be so please give me some pointers and suggestions on what you think of my sculpture so far.

Thanks,

Keith

Looks great! First 2 things I notice - ears need to curve outward more at the top - and his eyes need to slant downward a little more... he needs to look a little "sadder" if that makes sense...

Looks amazing already though!

looking good and you have picked a subject with a lot of distinctive features so it should be an easy likeness. you definatly have the likeness keyed in, you just need to elaborate on his features.

tommy has a very rubbery/fleshy face so depending on how old he is here, he could be a bit more jowly and loosen the skin around his neck and eyes.

great so far

The likeness looks pretty good so far. But what age/role are you trying to capture? I agree with the "rubbery face" comment if you're trying to TLJ of today, but pinning down a specific character rather than just a TLJ likeness in general may help people provide some more specific advice :)

Thanks for the feedback im going to work in more texture to capture that rubbery look you guys mentiond.

Hecubus114: As for the eyes what part were you suggesting be more slanted.

As for the age im really limited on photo reference I only found 5 really good photos, but if I had to say what age I would be going for it would be around when he did the movie Fugitive. I wish I had the movie to use photos from better reference.

Heres what I mean about the eyes: Typically TLJ has a "sad" or "confused" expression. This comparison shows that you have his eye and mouth placement dead on in conjunction to the rest of his head. Maybe his noce needs to come up a touch. And his eyes "bags" a little longer. The green lines show what I mean with the eyes:

I don't think the slant should be that bad - he's very old in that pic.

It's more in keeping with this pic from The Fugitive:

As an uninformed spectator, I have to say it looks pretty fricking good, minor details (sad eyes, etc.) notwithstanding...

WOW!

I find the fact that your sculpt matches his face so closely is truly amazing!!

What kind of clay are you using?

Very impressive and inspiring. :thumbsup

agreed also that age has a lot to do with the tweaking of the details - he sure has melted with time...

Wow thanks for the complements.

The picture helps a lot. I do see what you mean about the eye slant. He is a bit older in that pic, but I will try to tweak it a bit to fit that direction a little more.

Thanks again,

Keith

Here is an update for anyone who saw the sculpture in progress.

Its cast in silicone, but being my first time It didn't cast all the way this is one of the three attempts.

Let me know what you think.

Well Ive managed to get a successful casting over the weekend and I am excited. This will open up new ground on what I will do next. I used this sculpture as a learning curve and cant wait to improve my process on my next sculpture.

Here are pics of the complete cast done in Dragon Skin.

I was getting worried; the first untrimmed pic looks more like a ferengi :lol

Even cleaned up, IMHO, it looks more like Patrick Stewart than TLJ, but I'm sure that'll change once it's done...

Great job! The cast looks real nice!

As far as the head sculpt, the jaw line seems off. TLJ has a very very square head and his jawline is very low and angular.

The back of his jaw is about midway between his chin and bottom lip. Yours has it at his lip line. Here's a pic of him in his younger years. It shows is very square head. His jaw always reminded me of Robocops. Also his ears are too high. The top of his ear seems to be even with his eyeline and the bottom slightly above his top lip.

Excellent work Hudson82! :thumbsup

I can see the Patrick Stewart comment, but Tommy Lee Jones was who first came to mind when seeing the pics. I'm really looking forward to seeing it finished (hair, etc.). Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for kind words and open comments it will help on future sculptures. I do see a bit Patrick Stewart I hope color and hair well help change that. Speaking of hair if anyone can point me in the right direction on ordering high quality hair please let me know.

When it comes to the eyes.... :confused

Well these guys live in Botox world and facial lifts or plastic surgery is a weekly bussines among most of these stars. Hard to tell what in reality sculped on them or not.:lol
