Not really a prop, but I thought a few here might find it interesting.

So i had this ring made with sterling silver with a black onyx stone from a rock show locally. The onyx stone fell out one day. Instantly i thought to put a small trilobite in it, dont ask why. Well I finally found a suitable little bugger at a local gem and fossil store, shaped him up a little and tada!

He did get a few cracked off pieces near the bottom, but its not very noticable at that size. I sealed him from more cracking with some clear nail polish.

I'm a big trilobite fan. Most trilobite rings are too big and clunky but you really nailed a nice look.

kudos

Good job man!:thumbsup
I've wanted one of those for a long time. They had a really awesome one at the Museum Company store years back, but I hesitated in buying it. Damn, I wish I had bought it!:cry

We have the huge tribolite fossils known around the world in a suburb of Toledo. Sylvania OH has a fossil park where you can go and chip them out for free in a quarry section. Pretty incredible stuff. The larger ones are found in the deeper sections of the quarry. The public is allowed to go back but only with the proper safety gear. Otherwise, they bring hug slab of limestone out for the kids to go at. But if you ever need a handful of fossils, its a great excuse to take the kids out and chip away for some once the weather warms up.

Thats awesome! I wonder if they have anything like that in the New England, probably but you are gonna pay an arm and a leg for it :rolleyes

Geesh! You have hairy hands!
Seriously though. I really like this ring. Can it be protected it with something to prevent chipping?

uh...thanks.

Its coated with nail polish, but i will probably seal it with some spray sealer and paint on sealer as well. only so much to do to it before the details are fushed out, unless i had put it down further and poured clear resin over the top so its almost like looking inside a cast crystal with a fossil inside it.
