Custom Dr Doom

So I have been lurking for quite a while. Ive learned and progressed a lot in the costuming/prop building community due to the amazing builders on this site. Im finally starting my own thread! I have a con in Salt Lake City coming up in September, and will be doing a custom designed and built Dr. Doom. Starting with the mask, I will be 3D printing a custom design that the amazing people at do3d.com will be modeling for me. The design tries to emulate the classic Dr. Doom look while incorporating regal touches and flourishes to build on the iconic Dr Doom. The design should be ready in 2-3 days and i'll start printing immediately!

As for the rest of the costume, Ive decided to buy actual medieval replica armor for the arms and legs. Im super surprised at how cheap it actually is. The arms that I have bought are $130, and I have a few ideas on the legs that i'll post about soon. I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Oooh, I'm liking where this is heading! The mask looks a lot like you are going steampunk with the costume, really can't wait to see final product. Sub'd

Doom Arm Armor is here! Overall Im pretty impressed. Its regal and real steel, and looks the part. Its pretty heavy and Im sure my arms are going to be exhausted by the end of the convention. For those interested in purchasing, this is where I bought them.

The mask should be designed by Monday, and I will start printing as soon as it is completed. Might as well ask, anyone have any good idea for putting flourishes on metal armor? Little leaves and frills and what not? Im trying to make the armor as ornate as possible without taking away from the iconic doom look.

Its been a while since updating. Ive been moving across the state so its been a nightmare to work on anything in the meantime.

I have the majority of the face mask printed and I am working on sanding and prepping for paint. Im really happy with how it turned out, considering I myself designed the faceplate. Good quality on the flourishes and gears.

I also have purchased my fabric and will have my spectacularly talented wife begin sewing the cape and hood as well as the tunic this week. I chose a gritty wrinkly forest green fabric for the cape and hood that drapes well and looks sinister and chose a more thick, Scottish Tartan like fabric for the tunic. I feel like that will compliment the metal armor really well. Id

like to hear what you guys think! Thanks!

DUDE! That helmet is fire. Awesome design, I always love original designs, it allows for so much more creativity and this is a prime example. Love the knotwork/filligree/ on here. Excited to see this finish!
