I am working on a 1:1 scale Cross Punisher from the anime series 'Trigun'. I'm currently in the designing process of this, but I've pretty much figured it out.
There are 3 different versions of this weapon.

Type A:

The only problem is that the images aren't consistant.

In this picture you can plainly see only 4 handguns:

But in these, there are more than 4 (shows 5 and 6):

And the edges change throughout the scene, so i just have to pick a neutral point with the design.

Currently I'm only putting 5 handguns per cross arm.

Sorry if they don't make sense, or if you don't see how everything works yet. it'll all come together when I'm done.

The rocket launcher will most likely be a small spring powered nerf gun. The machine gun will be an airsoft machine gun, just for novelty effects, nothing too serious.

*Some things I wont know until i start to build (which wont be till January/Feburary next year), so not everything about this weapon will be designed just yet.*

This is how the center skull controls the opening on the rocket launcher covers and vents:

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

Interesting project. I'd be concerned about having cables that simply go slack (if I understand the diagram correctly) - there's a lot of potential for them to get tangled etc. Have you considered doing the moving parts with servos or even with compressed air?

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

Yes I understand what you are saying about the cables getting caught up on something. I haven't considered using any compressed air or stuff like that, simply because I'm better with mechanical stuff, not electronic.

I thought about using a similar system that they use in some headphone wires where both ends get wound up in a small disk, but I don't want it to make turning the center piece any more difficult than it might already be. That's what I'm talking about when I said I just won't know how it works until I start building it. I might run into a lot of problems and have to redesign.

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

Wolfwood's cross was the first prop I ever built, but it was just the covered version. I can't wait to see where you go with this.

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

Looks like some large, heavy sections to move with cables without the use of gears. If you're not so comfortable with electronics, maybe you could consider something ready-made such as the motors and control unit for pop-up car headlights?

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

That's possible. Good suggestion. I plan to make this entirely out of wood, then cast the pieces in resin. Would look a lot cleaner and be a whole lot lighter.

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

The manga cross is completely different and theres about 3 or 4 versions that appeared throughout the 10 years it was in print.

The most noteable is probably the Poseidon version based on the Anime gun which featured an MP5K airsoft in the 'machine gun' section with covers that opened and closed on both ends, they only built one and they sold a full set of blueprints with precise measurements and details on the mechanisim, which it looks like you already have.

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

I presume you are talking about the kit that is built 1mm at a time? Yes I have those instructions I found a year or so ago. If you have any scans of the manga version it would be greatly appreciated Spike. I only have a couple of the first one that appeared, as I only have the first few mangas.

Do you know if he uses it in the new movie? I haven't had a chance to see it yet :'(

The movie artstyle is based on the origional Manga and not the anime. Poseidon also did the solid cast 'Grader' handguns from the inside of the cross.

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

Nice. And yes, if ANYONE is selling those kits, please let me know.
For now I will just have to modify a Colt Commander, as it's the gun his is based off of.

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

Actually his gun has more in common with the 1911A1 Government model. Tokyo Mauri makes a very nice replica.

Sidkit was selling recasts of the Poseidon Grader kit for some time and origionals float around on YahooJP very often.

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

I thought it was a 1911 at first as well, but as you can see here, there is a drastic difference in length.
1911:

Colt Commander:

The Commander would still require modifications to the frame. The handgrip part is straighter than the traditional Colt.

Then I would have to change the cocking grooves, hammer, trigger, grip safety, etc.

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

The Poseidon version wasn't built 1mm per layer but actually 3mm sheets per layer. I actually contacted them when the plans were originally on the site and got some corrections to their original calculations. This info was only posted on their blog I was told. This was back in 2001.

They also made this one attached for one of the Mad House execs. Metal replica with full on airsoft capabilities and working opening mechanism.

It was a one off gift commissioned by the studio for this guy. I can't remember his name at all.

@Spike
Sorry if my last post was a bit forward. Wasn't intended to be. Just trying to share my knowledge.

Re: Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross Punisher

I suppose. You seem quite knowledgeable about the manga side of the fence, so I will probably be knocking on your door a lot when it comes to the manga version lol.
