With the Hellraiser franchise getting a reboot (what isn't these days) the guy who has done almost all of the FX work was in an article stating that he really hasn't been contacted about doing it. but he decided to do a new version of pinhead. I think its more disturbing than the original.

Looking at his personal website, I cam across this pic. Very cool image of the boxes used in one of the films.

and here is the article, so you can see his latest Pinhead.

Always been a "HUGE FAN" of Hellraiser, but why tinker with a Classic? Leave Pinhead as He was.

Is it me or does the young lady in the pic above look like a young Sally Fields? :lol

Hey,
The Hellraiser series has always been one of my all time favorite horror series. My puzzle box is one of my favorite pieces in my collection. The new pinhead looks cool, but I agree why mess with a classic. Dug Bradley will always be Pinhead to me.

Read the article - if he didn't do it himself and offer his well-thought-out ideas, soem French film company was going to do it and come up with God knows what...

Over all I kinda like it. My only complaint is a relatively minor one and that's the random placement of the pins. I've always been of the opinion that in the original, the precise placement of the pins showed that this wasn't some raving, maniacal entity. This was an entity with a sense of purpose and deliberation. You could amost see the man who would become Pinhead sitting in front of a mirror with a small pile of nails and a hammer, deliberately placing each one according to a pattern that only he and Leviathian knew.

Or maybe I overthink things. :)

The new Pinhead looks like Trent Reznor. I like it a lot but would much rather they left the franchise alone.

NO MORE REBOOTS!!! ENOUGH! There is just too much originality in the world to keep doing the same things over and over again.

Oh...wait, this isn't about art it's about money. Forgot. :rolleyes

I did...:p and I still stand by my original statement "Don't tinker with with it"

Hell... they should just use a Mime and stick Pins in his Head.. French

Well, I heard they are going to follow the book (Hellbound heart) for the reboot. IF that is the case Pinhead is going to Female.

The thread, You Opened it. We came & you have such links to show us.:lol

I say leave it where it is, up there untouched as some of the best celluloid horror.

Leave it alone! No more re-booting come up with something new or re-make something older than 40 years. Give us a new "Creature of the Black Lagoon" we dont need a rebooted Pinhead.

I too agree with Goodwolf, they need to leave this alone. This pinhead looks too much like it was inspired by movies such as The Grudge, The Ring and the SAW movies....which are fine for what they are, but they are not Hellraiser.

If they follow "Hellbound Heart," Pinhead wouldn't NECESSARILY be female. That Cenobite, (that became Doug's Pinhead in the first film,) was described as not really being able to tell if it was male or female due to the elaborate mutilations that had been done to it's flesh. Very Gender-Neutral/Androgenous. Now a woman COULD end up playing Pinhead, but so could a man.

As to leaving it alone, I have NO problem with re-imaging the series. We'll always have the original films, and as it's Clive behind this with a bigger budget, and more technology it HAS potential.

I DO have an issue with THAT interpretation of Pinhead. Why is it anymore that in order to make something "Scary" the whole idea is to make it messier, and more random.

The Cenobites, the Order of the Gash, had perfected their techniques of pain/pleasure over centuries, drawing out stimulus to the nervous system to the most extreme limits of it's capabilites.

It should look like artwork. Like finely crafted suffering.

That's the whole theme of just about EVERYTHING that Clive does; the dichotomy of beauty and grotesquery, pain and pleasure, genius and insanity.

This looks like some random psycho did this.

I DO like the monks robe idea, and it does look like they got the "filleted, corrugated, and dusted down with ash" look more closely to the description in the original novella than what the films had thusfar done.

Now mind, I like the look. He's a talented guy, but it's not a cenobite. It looks like some madman's attempt to become a cenobite.

But hey, that's just me.

I agree about the androgenous look of the original scribed cenobite & that could have given a bigger horror impact on a male or female viewer alike & given a broader fan appeal? although I think Doug nailed that role:rolleyes
As for Clive being behind it, was'nt he also behind the lord of illusions & look what that turned out to be:unsure fantastic read but did'nt cross over.
I just felt that part of the tour de force, that was hellraiser, was in part down to the BDSM aspect & that pain can have a certain beauty & eloquence? if crafted well :confused something I don't see present in this "new look"

unfortunatly this new image of an old icon just resembles something closer to a low speck games platform than something that would haunt the dreams. Possibly due to the roads Barker's being going down recently?

by all means "rework" an old franchise but as with an old bottle of wine it should be something that gets better with age & not just a victim of the rule of diminishing returns before the get go. I don't know!

I agree with the majority here. While it might be nice to see a new Hellraiser, they need to leave the remakes behind and come up with something new. But like thefish said, we still have the originals.

I have to get some pics up of my Lament Configuration. I had mine cut form a block of walnut. While not movie accurate, it gives the prop a nice heft. It's a very dense and heavy wood. The corners and edges are almost razor sharp. The brass panels were from the puzzle box company I think. Very nice stuff.

not prop related but ..while i was at collectormania london 09 doug bradley took a pic of me on his phone:) guess he hasnt seen many stormtroopers stalking ppl with charity boxes at 10:00 am lol, nice bloke tho very friendly... unfortunately i didnt have my camera with me at the time or i wouldve got a pic with him for myself :confused
