Comrade Greeting Card

My friends and I are pretty big fans of Futurama. We are often quoting it and have seen most of the episodes numerous times. I was thinking it would be cool to build Bender, but there seems to be lots of builds out there for him. Then I thought I could build one of the other robots instead. While looking through some pics to figure out which one to build, I came across this one for a quick, simple, fun build to get me started.

Comrade Greeting Card from the episode "Mother's Day."

I made the digital image for the card.

The font is not exactly the same. I'm not sure if I'm going to try and match it since 1) the animators probably hand wrote it and 2) it is just a fun little project.

Now to get it printed and make some legs and an antenna for it.
If I get real ambitious, I might download the sound clip of it speaking the poem and include that.

And Finished! That went quicker than I expected. So much so that I probably actually will see about making one that speaks.

I changed the back up to add the Momcorp logo, QR code and price so it looks like the back of a Hallmark card. I don't think it ever shows its back in the cartoon.

This was a fun evening diversion.

thats really cool! love background props like this so creative and original

I know it's been a while since you made this, but my mom is actually a huge futurama fan and I was wondering if you could let me know what material you used (on the feet and antenna) and let me use a copy of the graphic you made? I will be using a record your own talking greeting card as a start and hopefully I can use show audio to get it exact. If it turns out good I will happily send you one too :)

I think I've ID'ed the font used on the front: Adobe Caslon Pro.

Hey Scott800. I have been absent from the RFP for years and have decided to come back to do more, and found this message. The Digital file is currently lost from 2-3 computers ago. I might remake it though, it was a fairly simple project. The legs are copper tubing from a hobby shop (because it bends easy) and wood half spheres for the feet that I drilled a hole in (also form a hobby shop). I put magnets in the feet to help it stand when placed on metal surfaces. The antenna is the type of wire you can get form a florist or hobby shop to use with flowers. It is strong, bends easy, but keeps its shape and is plastic coated so easy to paint. A bead finished off the top. Hope that helps. If I find, or redo the card, I'll post it.
