Cobra Commander's Side-arm (Comic/Cartoon)?

I'm slowly working my way to putting together my own Cobra Commander costume - and am wondering what side-arm the Commander carried?

Any help appreciated!

Other information, such as rank insignias, etc - would be great too.

If you're going for original 80s it was a small blaster pistol. I helped a friend make one a few months ago:

We originally wanted to use a Sega light gun as it's handle is more accurate to the toy but my friend couldn't find the one he had.
