*Closed, unfinished* Iron Man Helmet, Pepakura Sharkmark

Hi everyone!

Just joined the forum after a few days of browsing and getting really inspired. Been browsing the 405th also and settled on trying out a Sharkmark VI Helmet, unfolded by Dubean33. (link)

Im thinking I will put in as much info/pics from my build as possible to really make me think about my work and maybe this will also be helpfull for other beginners in their work.

Started with building up the testerfile in original size. Looks good sizewise but any feedback whatsoever on that would be greatly appreciated. How snug or loose should it feel on the front, back, top, sides of my head? Edit: Testerfile can be found here: (link)

I will probably resin it and go to work with fiberglassing it so that I get the hang of that in advance also. I am browsing around everyday on the forum for info but links and thoughts are of course greatly appreciated.

Anyways, pictures: YAY!

So, what do you guys think? Does the size look good? Is the Sharkmark VI a good build or some other file better?

i'm not a pepakura specialist but it looks good, in any case it is a source of inspiration to start my own pep helmet !

good luck for the end

Thanks! Yeah I think its a good start at least, If I cant wear the final product it can always work as a really cool nightlamp or something ;)
Anyways - you should totally start peping, this testerhelmet took me maybe 5-6 hours to complete and was pretty gratifying to get done. Now some more tests and then on to the real thing!

Looks good and i think the size is really good to. Best of luck with your build :)

Thanks ^_^ looking forward to get it resined and fiberglassed to get a better feel for how all this is gonna work out. Hope to have more updates later this week.

Re: Iron Man Helmet, Pepakura Sharkmark

Forgive me if I am wrong and I hope this comes across as constructive criticism but I have also made the sharkmark VI and the pep work looked very different. There's a lot of detail missing on this piece.

Re: Iron Man Helmet, Pepakura Sharkmark

This is where I started.

The next stage is to glue together the 1100 joints on the real helmet.

Have fun.

Lmao that's because it's the size tester.

Absolute classic mate.

This is the tester helmet - so you can get the size right.

Erm, I'm feeling slightly foolish now then. I didn't know there was such a thing as a tester helmet for size *Bows head in shame*

Please ignore my rediculous comment from before :confused

No prob ^^ But I will actually resin and fiberglass this just to get a feel for it, and to check if the glue I´m using will hold up.

Or it could be that I am going for a really sleek look, less sanding this way ;)

Re: Iron Man Helmet, Pepakura Sharkmark

i'll share my experience on this:
i started to pep straight the full version *wrong move*:behave, too excited to make a iron man helm...

then i did 1st the mask part *wrong move again*:behave, you should start at the base... best bet would be the chin or the back part...

did't finish the ear part because it's too large for me lolz but the outcome is great... learned a lot on my 1st try ehehe also i did use 160gsm:unsure

tried pep the sharkhead 2.1 helm at 94% scale (80% complete) but currently halted because i'm working on tester file :behave

i did rescale my tester helm at 90% scale...

anyway goodluck ^_^, i'll try to post my 90% scale tester helm later if you allow me :love

*currently on cutting stage

Re: Iron Man Helmet, Pepakura Sharkmark

Hey hey,
Just wanted to update with a note that I will be closing this build down. BIG surprise to everyone by now! :p It all started of well but then I hit a wall with the project, mostly due to time needed elsewhere in life and probably about 25% of me being too lazy ;)

But hey, If you cant make it - Buy it! Ordered a top-notch helmet and waiting anxiously for its delivery. Then we will see if I can get myself worked up to start on parts for the suit or just use is as a really cool nightlamp or whatever ;)

You live and you learn and I will be around. Thanks to everyone who started following this thread, sorry for my lack of updates and such.

Need help plz. I made a foam helmet which fit great until the bottom section in the back went on. Is this a common problem? Should I scale bigger and if so how much bigger?

So, like many others, I started my build of a full helmet (not complete yet) only to realize that it might be too small (appears to sit VERY tight on my ears).

I am going to try this out. Is this tester a 1.00 scale to start with? If i size this up/down will I eventually get the proper size I need for my SharkMark files?

What scale did you use, (height mm)? Do you wear fitted hats, if so what size?

Looks good! Definitely start tackling it!! I just am about to finish gluing the lower rim on my tester! Haha hopefully all is well, I don't wanna redo it, and spend another 3 hours on just the tester lol. Altho 6 hours is better than a 10-15 hour investment for it to be the wrong size lol!

Currently doin a Mark vi suit from normal A4 printer paper ....i live in South Africa and we don't have cardstock here....made a mark vi helmet wayyyyyy wayyyyyy toooo excitedly and messed it up ......good experience .....so i then did a mark 42 helmet by gimpee just before IM 3 now i just finished pepping another Sharkmarks helm today and now its off to resining !!!! Good luck with yours!!!!!!!! PATIENCE is the key!!!!!!!
