Well, my 7 year old son finally got bit by the Star Wars bug. He would like to be Commander Fox for Halloween and I figured if I got started now, I might finish in time.:lol

Just for reference, the Target exclusive action figure.

And the beginning of the process, everything being milled out of 5" thick 4lb density foam.

And some of the pieces:

Right now I have everything sanded smooth and a nice coat of styrospray applied. Once that has hardened properly, I will do final sanding and prepare for vacuum-forming.

I also picked up one of the new voice changer helmets from Target. I was trying to save some effort, but it's so large compared to the armor, he would look like a bobble head. So I will probably end up making the helmet too.

Comments welcomed! Thanks.

That is simply amazing! I wish I had some of that talent!

Nicely done sir :thumbsup

As I look at it...I think you should do the helmet as well...that visor is off and the bucket too big

Re: Clone Wars Commander Fox

Thanks! The helmet is huge. I keep telling him it would fit me!:love

Also, anyone have experience vacuum-forming HDPE?? I've done quite a bit of styrene, but I'm thinking of using 1/8" HDPE for this instead. Just thinking it might hold up better with the 7 year old crowd.

Re: Clone Wars Commander Fox

Damn, now you can CNC too?
I think it's time for me to finish that 3D ironman helmet then...:D

Your son is a very lucky guy and will look great in that armor!;):thumbsup

Dude! I figured you already had the ironman done and it was just gathering dust in the vast Ramiel archives.:lol

Well, actually, YES I have a 3D model of it, but it's not screen accurate, so I have to "tweak" it a bit... Just let me know which 3D format you can use, and I'll try to do the rest...:)

And again, great work on that armor so far!:thumbsup

Re: Clone Wars Commander Fox: WIP for the little people

Wow VERY nice. I better not let my son see this... :lol

Re: Clone Wars Commander Fox: WIP for the little people

Any plans to scale it up later for the big kids? :lol

Looks fantastic already! Your son is a lucky little guy.:)

Eh! Big kids are tooo picky! :lol

Probably some glaring inaccuracies in the models I'm using, but I don't care and my son certainly doesn't either.

Now my big problem is he keeps telling all his friends "my dad will make you one too".

Might have my own legion of 4 foot tall clones by Oct.:confused

Hardcoat underway:

The leg pieces before being removed from the CNC:

Chrismas in July. Anyone need any fake snow? And that's with the dust collector sucking up about 90% of the foam.

That's the right attitude to take! If nothing else it makes it your own take on the armor.

I noticed a few fun things checking out the driver of my AT-TE. They must be bridging the clones and stormies further in this series because the backplate now has the "O I I" of the stormies. I love how they've been blending the two designs over the past few movies.

Re: Clone Wars Commander Fox: WIP for the little people

Reading the title of this thread again I thought at an Hobbit with a clone armor! :lol

Re: Clone Wars Commander Fox: WIP for the little people

NICE!

You should seriously make your own helmet too. Maybe front and back in the same way as the armor. Possibly use the helmet as basic referance, but accurize it and make it more to your sons scale.

Cause as of right now... your foam armor looks LIGHTYEARS better than that bucket. (no offense to fans of this helmet)

That is seriously awesome work! (y)thumbsup

Re: Clone Wars Commander Fox: WIP for the little people

That is friggin beautiful. Man the power you have with access to equiptment like that ! How long did it take from program to actually cutting it? I look forward to seeing that suit on your son.

Re: Clone Wars Commander Fox: WIP for the little people

Absolutely fantastic! I have a 7 year old as well, and he's a life long Star Wars fan. He would go nuts if I made him something like that! You are very skilled, I will be watching this thread with great interest.
