Chuck vs. the Fail

Has Chuck forgotten it's roots? Tonight's episode guest starred Summer Glau as this week's "Greta". Two Firefly alumni and not one single Firefly reference in the whole episode. WTF?

This show used to be all about the subtle and not so subtle nods to the geek roots of it's main and supporting characters and fans. I can't believe they let this one slip by.

Big fat :thumbsdown from me.

There was an oblique reference when Casey asked Greta:
"I don't know what crew you used to be on..."

Made me smile, anyway.

Yeah, I caught that, but when Summer Glau is playing a badass knife wielding super spy that's all they can come up with? Hell, not even a Terminator reference made it in.

We watched the first season of Chuck and really liked it. But then came "Dancing with the Stars" in the same time slot so my show got pre-empted and I spent the next two seasons trying not to watch Football players do the Pasodoble. I finally convinced the wife to get caught up on Chuck and so we watched Seasons 2 and 3 literally back to back marathon style and finished up right before the Season 4 premiere.

It was good even up until Season 3 but this year there seems to have been a palpable change. Season 4 seems to be taking itself a little too seriously and showing off way too much of Yvonne Strahovski's T&A. I get it, I think we all do...she's purty and all...but after 4 seasons do we still need slo mo shots of her walking and waving her hair around?

My wife, son and I were all waiting for her to cut Casey and mention the fact that he looks better in red! Very disappointed... but still think it's a fun show.

Exactly! I was waiting for that, or "I can kill you with my brain" or "No power in the xxx can stop me" or any number of the ones they had to choose from. And I totally forgot about the T:TSCC tie ins too. They really dropped the ball on this one.

"Castle" is the best at this. Last night's episode was a "sci-fi" based episode and it had a ton of X-Files references with Castle even whistling the X-Files theme song. Lance Henriksen also had a cameo.

And an obvious Firefly reference.

I don't know...I think it was a bit of a nod to "geekdom" just having her in the episode.

Did they miss an opportunity for a Firefly shout-out? Absolutely...But I didn't think it distracted from the overall ep.

Overall, my wife and I still really enjoy Chuck...But sadly, I feel like this will probably be the last season.

I was more upset with the return to the malfunctioning intersect plotline. They need to move on past that and start writing shows that will challenge Chuck with a fully functioning intersect.

Ultimately it's a show about the characters though, not the stories. I really enjoy the dynamic between the actors, and like I said before, as long as Yvonne Strahovski is in her undies, I'll tune in every week! ;)

I believe the Summer Glau appearance wasn't their (the shows) choice. It's just supposition, but if you noticed, they had a commerical on, during Chuck, for a new show they've got in the spring (after xmas at least) starring Summer Glau called Capes or something like that. I saw that and thought, 'oh, just a PR thing'.

I am still waiting for a My Bodyguard reference. Would love for Casey to hit some one in the face, then "you broke my nose......you broke, my nose...."

Adam Baldwin has been steadily acting for 30 years. They could give him a reference in every episode and NEVER run out! IIRC, he told someone in one of the earlier seasons to "flush out their head gear" which I thought was awesome. I think he even used the exact "flush out your head gear new guy" line.

They don't seem to be keepingthe sub-plot lines running overly long. I mean look how long it took Chuck to tell his sister about mom. So I'm hoping this "broken" intersect thing ends quickly. And then Chuck goes on to prove that "he is a real spy".

I didn't even think about the Firefly connection. I loved them grunting at each other when she questioned his decision. :lol

BTW, last week was that another intersect computer under Ellie's seat in the Mustang?

Ahhh...I didn't catch that as I fast forward through the commercials. :)

He came really close to flashing a few times when He was scared for his life. I really think that it will happen when Sarah is in danger and he is her only hope.

Of course, I am a few episodes behind so it may have already happened by now.

Spoiler alert for those who aren't caught up.

I find the show to be very inconsistent. Chuck's mom flashes a PSP in front of Chuck that makes him lose access to the intersect. His Dad gives Ellie a laptop from beyond the grave that only Chuck has a password for, which then turns out to be the intersect! Which makes no sense because Chuck's dad hated that he had it in the first place. Now he conveniently got it back.

Also, the intersect was killing Chuck, until his Dad made a watch for him to cool down his nervous system when he flashes. However, there are plenty of episodes after that were Chuck isn't wearing a watch at all. Soooo....wtf?
