Can vaseline be used to make painted latex look glossy?

I have a latex heart that was painted with oil paint/ rubber cement. This heart is motorized to beat from the inside. It will never handled, and only has to last a week or two.

I'd like the prop to look wet; is vaseline suitable to give this appearance? I couldn't find anything advocating for/ against this online.

Vaseline is a petroleum product and will eat thru latex. Use KY jelly which is water based and won't harm the latex at all.

Hey, if your looking to get a permanent gloss over latex this is the best stuff to use.

You can get a nice temporary shine from silicone oil or silicone based lubricant. It won't harm the rubber - anyting oil based (silicone oil is the exception) will eventually dissolve the latex. Oil is a latex solvent, petroleum particularly so.
