Hi all

Can anyone tell me if its possible to replicate the plastic dome in the picture
commercialy in either clear or amber cheaply? I only need one.

If someone can give some advise before i start blindly calling plastic companies it would be a great help.

Cheers.

um... yes it can be made... but you give no reference in the picture as to just how big this dome is - a ruler next to the item would be great. If it's within 4-5 inch diameter, you could re-create it at home with some thin plastic and a heat source to soften it and 'thermo-form' a copy. You'll need a 'buck' to form the plastic to - if you have the dome, take measurements and create a master to the inner dimensions of the dome in the picture. This will give you the 'buck' you will need to form the heated plastic over. If you've never done this before, it will take some experimenting to get it right. If this thing is really big, then you'd need a Vac-former to do it for you and it will cost...

I'll say it here cuz I said it aloud and I'm sure others will too, what the F&#k is that? Looks interesting but I have no clue what it's from.

You could make a mold of it?

Thanks guys.

This is not something i plan to do myself, am hoping to come across a commercial operation that could do it for me.

Its a vintage STARS TEAM toy space helmet as used in the movie Dark Star.
It is currently on Ebay but the dome is not the correct colour so i want to find out if i can have it reproduced cheaply enough to make bidding worthwhile.

Im basically asking if a one off replica of this is possible commercially without ordering a 100 of them.

Thanks Mic,
Yep, i already have 99% of Doolittles costume, not the space suit and the space helmet would top it off nicely. Aready have the correct compass and tubing needed.

Just to note that the dome of the helmet is what im asking about. It detaches
from the body and is a seperate part. I would rather not trust in finding some similar bowl off the shelf to replace it.

Searching for images on Google I found the above. Is that an upside down ice cube tray? Lit up control panel. Crap in heaven, I can do that prop. ;) :D

The old original version of the helmet had an amber (yellow) bubble and a blue front nozzle piece...it was re issued years later with a gray dome and a yellow front nozzle.

I had one of the originals as a kid, but the dome got broken and it eventually got thrown away...

I did get one of the re issues though.

Thanks very much for the info guys.
I didnt know the background on the helmet reissue so thanks for that Sporak.
Richie and Robot, thats pretty much the solution right there. Should be able to find a similar set up somewhere locally.
Thanks again.:cool
