Can anyone ID this prop? Fellas, you might need to bring in the wives for this one...

Edgar Wright is directing the live-action adaptation of this really great comic book series called "Scott Pilgrim" (I implore you to check out scottpilgrim.com to preview each of the five books that are out.) The character in the photo is named Ramona Flowers and that very-distinctive, star-adorned purse is the prop I'm having trouble identifying. The problem is, I don't know exactly what to call it? Round purse? Round bag? Circular canvas purse? Several trips to different Army Surplus stores have ruled out the bag being a canteen holder of sorts so I'm sure its origin is female in nature.

My lady and I are cosplaying as the comic book versions of Scott and Ramona for Comic Con this year and that star purse (called the "Subspace Suitcase" in the comics...you really gotta check out the book to understand that one) is the last bit of flash we need to complete the look.

So fellas? If you could drag your wives, sisters and ladyfriends to the computer for a quick look, I'd most appreciate it. And (hopefully) someone out there will see the photo and say "Oh, I got a bag just like that in the closet somewhere" and they'd be willing to sell it to an increasingly desperate sap such as myself. It doesn't need to have the star on it either...I'll pull that one together with a bit of leatherette material from the fabric store and a few hours of stitching.

Thanks for your help, guys. When all is said and done, I'll finally pop my RPF show-off thread cherry shortly after July 25th with detailed pics of the costumes and the giant cardboard/styrofoam/Bondo character helmets I've been crafting over the past few months (which, I must add, wouldn't have been possible without the advice and input I've received by you wonderful gentlemen on this board.)

I googled round purse/round shoulder purse and saw a bunch that look like they could be modified.

Hummm....the big star on the bag makes me think to the "Converse All Stars" brand !!! Could you check this way eventually ?

I posted a question about where to get the bag on Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim photoblog and he answered! But it's bad news for me...apparently the bag is custom made. Ugh.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I found a good candidate for a replica, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to strip off the bag's color. Otherwise, I'll just piece together a non-functional bag out of a cookie tin or cardboard hat box.

Funny thing about that Converse All-Star realization...some girl a few years back actually used a round Converse purse for her Subspace Suitcase. Alas, I couldn't find THAT one either!
