Building the Beast (Beastmaster Mando Armor)

So as of last Tuesday (Dec 3) I have been trying to post this

I recently joined RPF in order to get help on building my project for probably the next three years. I decided to make the bold move after looking at awesome Mandalorian armor and try to attempt to scratch build it myself. So my first idea was to register at the Madalorian Merc's site in order to get some help. But because the site for some reason forever thinks that I'm a robot that came to a screeching halt.

Then a friend brought me back to The RPF and so here I am. and now for the actual reason for this thread...
I'm attempting to build what is described on the Mando Mercs site as Beastmaster Armor. For those who are not familar with the specs here it is as described from the site:

Beast Hunter

General:

  • Environment-toned armor and accessories
  • Substantial environmental weathering that suggests prolonged exposure to the elements (no pristine kits)
  • Weathering or scars from an animal attack
  • No additional techy greeblies allowed on helmets
Weapons

ONE of the following is required:

  • A knife or vibroblade
  • Machete or Beskad
  • Gauntlet-mounted blade
ONE of the following is also required:

  • 2 handed, ranged weapon with a scope
  • A spear
  • An axe
  • A bow
  • A sword
Accessories:

  • Electro/Macrobinoculars or a rangefinder
  • Majority of pouches must be made of real or faux: leather, animal hide or animal body parts made of any material that resembles flesh, bone, scale or fur.
  • You must have one trophy from at least two species of beast, and they must be on prominent display.
ONE of the following is required:

  • A trap
  • A length of rope or cable
  • A snare
  • A net or net launcher
Suggested:

  • Poison or tranq darts and dart gun
  • A low-tech kit is recommended.

As of right now I'm just working on the helmet for which I only have a few sketches for

So thats all I have right now. Let me know what you guys think of the design and I'll be sure to post updates as soon as I get time to actually progress it.

P.s. If anyone knows the contact info for Tech supervisor of the Merc's Site I'd greatly appreciate it

The basic ideas laid out are really cool. You could incorporate more trophies into your designs very easily through ideas like animal horns and bones being incorporated into the handles of blades/swords or images of them being carved scrimshaw like into weapon butts and barrels. Checking out the Wookiepedia or a book called The Wildlife of Star Wars can give you some ideas about what creatures could inflict the visual damage to beskar iron you’d like to see represented in your beskar’gam . You may want to even incorporate coat color(s) of certain beasts into the color scheme (the red-black ombre of the reek is kinda cool)

As for the practicalities of the actual making, I’m guessing you have checked out places like the Dented Helmet. That leaves the more exotic animal parts. Horns, bones and things with bare skin would be the easiest to represent with even Earthly bones and horns from places like Etsy working pretty well (try dyeing cow vertebrae for an unique look). If you decide to have pieces of animal pelt then I would suggest checking out information on airbrushing fursuits from furry sites to take patches of mundane faux fur to trophies of other worldly kills.

Need help with Resin

So I recently started making some custom Mandalorian Armor and hit a snag after I finished fabricating the actual helmet. My idea was to fabricate a jaw and secure it on to the helmet like in my sketch. Problem is I'm new to casting and I can't seem to find a good resin to use for the lower jaw. Anyone who has experience with this I would appreciate it.

I found some examples of what I was talking about , i.e. the incorporation of animal parts into weapons. These were made for a SW fan film a few years back.

Are you sure you want to cast the jaw? As an unique item you could sculpt it from something strong enough to withstand wear and tear while also being lighter then Resin.

hi, im new to Pep myself but as ive been a 3d modler for 13 years I thought illd try and convert some of my old starwars galaxy props , It happens that two ive done are a Vibro Knucker and a Vibro Knife.. as I haven't yet added anything to a web site so other can upload the stuff ive done yet, I would be willing to Email you the files if you want to try to make them out of Pep mate.

That would be amazing man. I've tried some Pepakura builds in the past but they always seemed like scratch jobs that someone built in the viewer rig. I would love to see some of your models.

Re: Need help with Resin

Any suggestions? I've done some work with wood and fiberglass in the past but other than that I haven't had much experience with other materials. I am pretty good at carving if that helps narrow it down.
