Started the other day printing my iron man helmet just picked up my first printer at this time also. Helmet is all together body work is done getting ready for the last coat of primer and then paint. This is my progress so far. Wanting to start the suit it can seem to find a hole set of files for the mark 3 or mark 7 seems every one are doing the mark 6 or mark 42. I have been searching for close to a week does anyone have any suggestions also does anyone have any suggestions on how to smooth out abs filiment I used a high build automotive primer the a glaze coat for the rest of the imperfections. image.jpegimage.jpeg

To get a nice smooth finish, sand the print with 180 grit sand paper then use a spot putty filler then sand that with around 220 grit then undercoat then sand the undercoat with a wet and dry 800 grit and you'll get a perfect finish (well that's what i've found). For 3D files look up Dd3D they've got a few different suits on there.

I'm using a da Vinci 1.0 with the repitier host its has been working great so far printed everything with 5% infill and thick walls was afraid that it wasn't going to be strong enogh but I dropped it last night when I was getting ready to apply this silver stainless steel paint for the base cost the helmet dropped from about four and a half feet no issues. This is what the stainless steel paint looks like applied I want to do a battle damaged look thought this would be cool to see through the red and gold paint. image.jpegimage.jpeg

Questions on servos I have a couple nes-507 servos and when I hood power to them I can only get them to go in one direction. If I hook them up to the air plane board they move in both directions when the controller is used my question can I get this to work with out the controller and board it's a three wire like all the ones I see online I changed the wires all around but still only one direction any thoughts thanksimage.jpegimage.jpeg

Here's a little update on the helmet I bought a arduino uno and pro mini 5v and hooked up the hinge and face plate servo next is the jaw and then try to figure out these circuitry and coding is never messed with this before so I guess I'll see how it goes image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

You can buy the mark 7 model from do3d. That's what I did. It's pretty good so far but the hands are incorrect.

Your helmet looks good but is not accurate for a mark 7 if you decide to go that route. Would work for a mark 3 though. But I have yet to see files for that either.

Ok so got the servo concern figured out and was able to write some code to have neopixels as the eyes i still need to make the eyes shut off when the face plate lifts up and i may add a second set of neopixels two the eyes. The eyes that i have made are see through even with the lights i can still make out obstetrical really well so i will be able to walk around with the face down however the lights do make it a bit difficult in dim light.IMG_3894.JPG

Thanks for the comments the helmet is self contained with the Adriano and battery pack and the see threw eyes worked out great I took my kids trick or treating with it no issues. I have been printing a ton or stuff most of the upper body is printed but my printer has resently gone down been trying to figure that out. Once I get this back up and printing I'll update with what is done. Not sure what people are using to adhere there parts but I have been using a 2 part smc glue super stong the parts will fail well before a seam. Might be over kill to some but the other day I dropped my helmet from about five feet and nothing happen no cracks or loose parts just added some more weathering.
