Hey all, I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Josh and I have just registered for the forum here. (You all do great work). I am looking to make my first costume. I am interested in making a Nu BSG officers uniform and seem to be at a loss of where I can find a pattern and what material would be best for this endeavor. I am on a limited budget at the moment so I want to piece this together over the next 6 months to a year. Any help would be appreciated and thanks again.

First off, welcome Josh. There is a bit of a problem with your post. When you say "BSG officer's uniform," you should be more specific. There's three different types of "officers uniform": Uniform Blues (regular duty uniform for command staff), Uniform Grays (Ceremonial Uniforms worn for special and specific events, such as promotions and funerals) and Uniform Greens, basically duty uniforms for most of the other positions. There are some that are even more "job specific", like the tan outfit worn by the Sergeant of Arms in "Litmus".

So, are you asking about Uniform Blues, Uniform Grays or Uniform Greens? If its the grays, they're modified Civil War re-enactment uniforms (I can't remember where, but there is a company that sells them). But for Uniform Blues, I don't know if there are patterns available, but I'm sure there's someone who may know if there is and where to find them. Same for the Uniform Greens.

I wish you luck on your project. :D

BTW, though AVONOS has recently released ranking pins (which are above the $100 range), there are some places that sell some of the earlier made ranking pins for a lot less. For example, I bought two different sets pins for two different rankings from a nearby comic book/collectable store for only $0.99 for each pin. However, AVONOS' pins are of higher quality, I'm sure. So, depending on how much money you want to spin, you can get a wide variety of ranking pins.

As far as I know there are not any patterns but you should find some good info in scifihero. If your really budget minded you can get a costume base jacket, but you will still need to upgrade the patch and pins.

As for pins you can't beat the quality or accuracy of the Anovos pins, they are made by the same factory that that the originals were made from. Of course you could always get screen used pins..

Thanks everyone, I never knew that they used a Confederate jacket for the dress grays. I might change my mind on which version being that I have a repro confederate jacket that would work perfectly. I wish I went to a local con around here this year might have found alot of stuff I needed.
