BSG Atmospheric Flight Suit

Should have started on this project about this time last year so it would have been ready on the 10th Anniversary and not started in the wake of it.
Have a feeling it will take the year to buy all the bits since nothing must be made… except the phoenix and circle transfer.

This is going to be a BS Pegasus atmospheric flight uniform based on the one in the Adama family photo.

It will not be pure new series, going to toss on the Silver Spar Squadron patch, in honor of both the Original Series and Commander Cain.

The jacket will be a Pegasus version of the Apollo flight jacket. Seems too late to find an H+M. Guess I will have the same issue when looking for the correct 4 USB hub…. Costuming like milk and eggs are time sensitive.

I already have the easy parts; a CWU-27/P and a pair of black leather flight boots.

My wife has ordered a flight jacket for me as a Valentines’ gift; just have to wait for it to be delivered. Too expensive to re-patch an Anovos so this is what it should look like.

Found where I can get most of the parts except custom engraved BSG dog tags and the Sakar iConcepts 4 USB hub. Or should I say, have yet to find where to get these two parts cheap.

Also, don’t know if I’ll go as far as getting a MIG pressure helmet, at least that is my guess on what the helmet Bill and Lee are holding.

I must say that SciFi Geeks is super fast processing an order. My wife has already received them so I hope they look good but sadly after she forwarded some of the stuff.
The rank and wings have been received and forwarded. They must look great. She called them a Kardashian purchase.
I hope the Pegasus and Weapons School patches ship soon. I ordered those from a different place than the Silver Spar patches from SG patches..but all the patches are just for the flight suit.
I have no shipping notice on the jacket and then it will need to be forwarded.

It's the 40th Infantry Division.

Amazon.com: US Army Military Armed Forces Iron On Patch - Infantry Divisions - 40th Division Applique: Clothing

The image I used in photoshop was the one from Military Uniform Suppy but I ordered the patch from Amazon.
I hope to get what is pictured on Amazon. Either way, I'll add a darker boarder around the edge.

Hope this helps.

Also, found out that the Silver Spar patches were mailed today. So just two sets of patches short and a jacket. I should have ordered everything from SG but my alternate source of patches is where I may get a Season 2 blaster and wanted to test the waters on a small item.

Considering this is going to be pre-second Cylon war, should have a Season 1 blaster and a hard shell holster and not the 5n7 in a fabric pouch.??

Received the rank pins and flight wings. They are nice and heavy. The wings are push pin while the rank screw post backing.

The backing of the wings won't lock with the blank patch on so I have the fuzzy side showing. The rank will require the collar to have a small button hole cut.

Also, received two of the patches, the 40th Infantry and the Communications Command.

The tan 40th patch looks great, modified it into the 12 Colonies patch with a black permanent marker around the edge.
For the Comms patch, couldn't do much with the Air Force but did re-stitch the stars into base ships.

Like to thank Batninja for finding a source for the USB hub at a decent price.

Hope it doesn't get lost in the mail because I think I ordered the last one as they are now listed 'out of stock'.

Know it is just a sheet of Mylar with a decal but wow can Anovos wrap a package.

Shoved the WIP blaster and Hub into the pouches.

Just a couple of patches and a jacket to go.

Another great looking Anovos product arrived the double tank.
20jhap1.jpg

Ordered a smaller than normal size for the skin tight look.

Unfortunately, they are 100% polyester.
Was hoping for 100% cotton but I now have a color reference and something to pull a pattern from.
Important point, the second shirt is actually a grayish brown and I plan to wear a long sleeve gray shirt like in Blood and Chrome.
So I guess I will be making a dark brown tank so everything will be the same fabric.

While waiting for the two other patches and the jacket, sewed the velcro on the Silver Spar patch and put together a Caprica flag.

Hope to have the patches next week.

Final patches arrived today.!!!!!!!!!!!

Alchemy Arms was nice enough to FedEx them but then I had to wait for them to be forwarded to me.

Now, Just waiting on the jacket......
Kind of wish I could send Anovos, the collection of patches and have them put on their jacket since I have their belt and double tanks.
Or at the very least have a BSG 62 patch replace the Drill Sergeant-ish patch on the shoulder and no Vigilantes patch on the chest pocket.

My wife really doesn't want anything to do with science fiction but she did get me a great jacket for my BSG project. More importantly, she was able to figure out the wonky sizing chart and order a perfect fit.

I will not call it cheep just inexpensive because it is a well made jacket. The color is a darker OD green than the picture on-line, reason my photo-shop construction is light OD green, and the fabric is heavier than I expected.

The only thing off, is the zipper, it is on the left side of the jacket. Thought a man's jacket was always on the right? But for a first order from a store on Ali-express, I'm impressed... So much so, didn't cut it up but used it pure. Thought I would remove the shoulder loops but all that was removed is the velcro closures from the hand-warmer pockets so the wrist cuffs will not get frayed.
If I can find match for the fabric, may add the FOD flaps for a more screen accurate look.

Here is the jacket with the fake US Army patches removed and the BSG patches just tossed on.

Really surprised that my photo-shop guess sizing was so close compared to the actual layout.

Now, just have to make the Phoenix for the right chest pocket.

Finished the BSG Pegasus jacket this weekend. Well, except for the FOD flaps. The more I think about it.... the more they are required.

Here is a photo-shop poster of the final jacket to contrast against the original idea.

Edit: This in not the Anovos double tanks that I have but double t shirts from Target. I'd like to find a cotton tank in the brown color to go over the gray cotton t shirt.

For the rank I didn't sew button holes on the collar of the flight suit.

Used rare earth magnets and just cut the posts off.

They don't rotate and thankfully aren't attracted to each other.

For the gloves, wasn't able to find the old style and was forced to use the new heavy duty gloves.

Finally here is my finished Blaster, hub and clamshell holster on the Anovos BSG pilot belt.

Just short a set of dog tags and I think that will be about it.

Here is the cost break down of the jacket.
Flight Jacket $58.52
BSG Pegasus Patch $9.50
Viper Weapons School Patch $9.50
40th Infantry Division Patch $7.99
USAF Communications Command Patch $7.99
Silver Spar Squadron Patch $9.50
Total cost $103.

Staedtler black marker fine for phoenix on pocket and black outline of 40th Inf Div Patch.

I didn't include the wings with the cost of the jacket.

The helmet on the picture is a Russian Gsh6 stratospheric helmet. Easily found on Ebay, if you need one.

Hi. I am trying to get together a group of BSG fans so I can produce the minimum order quantity of the Chromaflair polyurethane used in flight suits. My company sommers.com sold Universal and we are out of the three authentic colors 2Battlestar_flight_costume.jpg3925581916_338615f0c6.jpg used. I know it is expensive due to the chromaflair pigment but we have sold this to Anovos and others in the past. Can you help? Are you interested in joining a mailing list?

While I wouldn't be able to do this for sometime but please post your fabric updates here so I can follow it.
But yes, Eventually, I would like to have a 'space' viper suit also.
As with everything, the longer the wait the harder things like the shoes and gloves are to get.

I was asked to provide a link to the jacket that I used. The exact link that I used was no longer active. A search for "Canvas Flight Jacket" came up with these two that look about right.

The first jacket has an Army name tape while the second has Air Force and is slightly less expensive. Unless you reuse the patches don't think it matters because they will be removed.

It is a great jacket, just had it on last weekend and wish it came in Khaki.

The front pockets of the jacket measure 3 3/8 by 5 1/8. As you can see my silver spar squadron patch is a little long at 3 1/2 inches but based on Amazon.com info the 3 1/4 Primus patch should fit nicely.

As for the sizing charts, yeah.... don't know the algorithm to figure that conversion. I'm 6'2 200lbs and went with the XL and it fits perfect but from the measurements in the sizing charts... its a crap-shoot.
