My daughter wanted to be a Boxtroll named Shoe for Halloween. I have not seen the movie but she explained what Boxtrolls look like in great detail. There are plenty of pictures available online, so this is what I used as inspiration/reference for her costume.
My wife found the packing box for the Box troll body at the post office.
Most of the costume I made from fleece I had used for other costumes in the past.
I started first with the arms. Basically I made long sleeve length gloves. I stitched some detail pieces on the palms and made some felt loops for the finger stripes. I also made each sleeve a little pink elbow. This way she could pull on the gloves and have her whole arms covered.

Once both arms were done, I made fleece pants with a similar color and made matching pink knees. I put elastic in the waist so that they would stay up.
I cut some white fleece ribbons to wrap as a makeshift belt and also to use as leg wraps. I made some fleece feet with toenails and elastic loops so that they would stay on my daughters shoes when she was walking or running around
.
The head was my biggest challenge. I started with eyes, then made the ears and nose, then the forehead and upper portion of the head. I stitched the upper lip and added it to the eye panel I had already made.
I stitched to mouth, tongue and teeth together then added them to the upper lip and sewed the ends to the side of the face then added a back panel to the back of the head to cover her neck. I stitched the nose on then the ears to each side.
The box I painted with white primer and then a layer of brown paint. I added some light pink accents and then painted on a shoe I had drawn from a picture I found on line. Then I added all of the detail lines with a sharpie.

Sorry about the sideways photos, I can't figure out how to turn them in the correct direction
