Boromir Costume

Hey all, I have been wanting to do a Boromir costume forever now, really since the FOTR came out, as Boromir is my favorite character and I especially like the LOTR. I recently made a friend that is really into costuming and we made a Mandalorian costume for me a couple months back. Because of this I decided to go ahead and give Boromir a shot. I have started doing a lot of research and have got pretty much every reference photo I could need. I have also seen what other people have decided to do and that has also gone a long way to inspire me and give me ideas. I really want to make it as accurate as possible so I plan on doing parts myself and buying parts that are beyond my expertise or parts that others make that are just amazing. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

After looking at all of the reference photos and mini-planning everything, I have figured it comes down to things I need to buy to work on or just use and things I need to just make via sewing/leather working/ect....

So first thing I decided to work on was the chainmail sleeves as shown on the disc 3 of the extended edition of FOTR as pointed out by Anduril on his Boromir WIP.

I have done chainmail for fun before so it isn't so bad, just takes forever and I bought far too few rings. I figured I need about a square foot of chain for each sleeve. So I need a about another 1600 rings. ><

While that is in progress I have been debating how to do the red "silk like" cloak he wears as the second layer. The actual body seems plain enough but for some silver rectangular buttons. However the black collar has a design and the sleeves are somewhat tricky, if not the single hardest part to replicate perfectly. Because of this you have to try to get the closest possible. As they used a Sari for the original I decided to go and look for them. I found one of a similar color with the gold dots required. So not a bad foundation.

I plan on using the base material with the red dots, then adding the trim and variation in the dots to make the sleeves. I have also been looking into trim for the collar and have found some similar looking items.
I kind of like this for the trim on the collar even though it isn't perfect. Metal-Trim-black-gold-2-900x896.jpg

As for the trim on the sleeves I am kind of at a loss as of now, I could technically use the trim on the Sari, however it isn't very accurate.
Twin Roses Designs did a Boromir costume where they used Venise Lace Trim as for the sleeves, I have yet to find one good for what I need.

I am not all that good at costume making, although I am really trying hard to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading. :]
