Blue Eyes in the first Avengers movie? Colored Contacts?

Does anyone know much about this? For instance the hypnotized Hawkeye character and the others Loki has under control have blue eyes. Is this a CGI effect or achieved via contacts? Since comic con is approaching I wanted to do something too along these lines.

The main problem I have seen is that I already wear corrective lenses and a couple places do not offer them in a prescription and I am blind as a bat without contacts.

It was all post-production. They mention it in the special features for Avengers.
