Blue 5 MPC X-Wing

I think that turned out great! Aren't the blue markings true to the original book anyway?

True to the original book....:lol....love it!

SW was a book after the movies....LOTR was book before the movies.

You are right....X Wings were blue in markings....didn't work well with blue screen, so changed to red in filming.

Ha! Someone gets my humor! Yes, I know it was a book after the movie but the concept of Blue markings was the original incarnation.:) However, the movie script came first so I suspect it was still in writing one way or another before it was film.

I wish you'd spent more time trimming and filing and sanding,
because that paint job is SWEET!
Next time, right? ;)

Yes. In the novelisation the X-Wing squadron DOES have blue markings but I can't remember what the Y-Wing squadron have (Red?).

The book was ghost written by Alan Dean Foster and first published in December 1976 featuring Ralph McQuarrie concept art on the cover. The book also includes scenes deleted from the theatrical release including Luke watching the Star Destroyer and Tantive IV battling above Tatooine, Camie and Fixer, Biggs prior to leaving to jumping ship (Rand Ecliptic IIRC) as well as the extended dialogue between Luke, Biggs and Red Leader just before take off.

SB mentioned that it was his /experimental/ before building the FM kit. So, a 'quick & dirty' or 'paint pig' or whatever you might call it. For all that, still a very nice looking model, yes! I'd say the paint experiment was a success.

Brilliant work StevenBills (& other guys),.....the blue colour scheme looks brilliant,....some great weathering

Rockvoice (Marko) has made a brilliant modification to his FineMolds kit with some 3D printed parts

....he might have a thread here for this build,....but here's a link to the build on Keeper of the Force

Hey Steven, your Blue 5 kicks ass! I think that ILM originally wanted the "Red" squadron to be the "Blue" squadron.

Thanks for the kind comments, guys! And yes, this was my very first X-Wing build, and it was very experimental. I followed that up with my FM 1:48, which is an awesome kit. Turned out pretty okay, IMO. And right after I finished the FM, (this was back in September), I started on another MPC X that will be Blue Leader. Sadly, school has gotten in the way, and it's basically just sat on my hobby table. But come June... :)

Hey SB,

This is likely shameless ;) but I just have to suggest it... if you are going to do another MPC X consider upgrading the wing pivot mechanism. :) I think this blue scheme is way cool.
