Blade Runner - What Did Scott Get Wrong?

Hare Khrishnas don't seem to do the colorful robe and chanting thing down the street anymore.

You all are hitting all the things that struck me that I forgot - that's totally one of them, and totally indicative of the time / era the film was made; 1981. Airplane, anybody? 1980...

No vidphons on streets are needed

Home computers, laptops, and cell phones are the way that some U.S. intel agencies monitor us. ;)

Plus the use of the VidPhon may also be a way of getting cameras inside peoples houses as well as all over the street that the government or private agencies could use to spy on people. I can still see them being used someday if we continue to head in this direction.

My friend and I got a big laugh at the time.
I bet the yung-uns today probably have no clue who they are now watching the film.
We used to see em doing their thing downtown back then.
Never took them up on the free vegetarian dinner offer though.

Since cell phones will no longer work, and most people use their computers in a secluded spot, the best way to see what is going on inside a household is to convince them to put a camera in every room and on every street. Deckard even has a vidphon in his bathroom...lol

I always considered Blade Runner (or any classic sci-fi film, like 2001) as its own self contained universe, or an alternate timeline, not a prediction of the future of our universe. In the Blade Runner universe history and technology obviously took very different paths than ours.

That's actually a very Philip K Dickain thing! I just hope Ridley does not screw that up by adding cell phones, flat screens, or other modern tech to the sequel he is working on.

I was commenting on our Universe not Ridleys.

Yeah that Vidphon in Deckards bathroom was kinky! :lol
