Big 8" Lego Character project

I'm helping a friend build these cool oversize Lego guys based on an 8 inch tall figure. They are mostly going to be Star Wars, with some others characters of interest mixed in.
I am sculpting some of the organic items like helmets, hair, hats, etc. He is doing all the other parts. All from original sculpts no copies of anything out there.
So far I've made masters of a biker scout head, C-3PO's head, Indy's hat. Working on a hair piece, Indy's Whip and Gun now. More photos soon. I'm also making all the graphics for the characters outfits.
So far we've finished R2-D2 & C-3PO, Han In Carbonite, and a Biker Scout. Indiana Jones is in the works. Enjoy the photos, they are taken with their inspirational miniature counterpart. So many ideas so little time.

Sweet! What material are you making these out of?

The parts I'm making are a mix of styrene and apoxy sculpt. I also use other materials, whatever it takes. I just made the whip for Indy and I used parts of an old marker (it had a slight taper that I wanted unlike straight styrene tubing), and also balsa wood for the handle.
Kyle uses a mix of materials also. He did CAD drawings and had most of the body part masters machined in metal. Some other parts he used styrene and wood.

Here are some images of the C-3PO and Biker Scout head in progress.
The Biker scout was the first and I learned a lot about what works and what does not. The biker scout was built on the metal head master, 3PO doesn't go over a standard head so he was built from the ground up. The scout was cast on a plug since the toy head is all black there was no point it trying to keep it as a separate piece.

I've even modelled figures in the 3d to be cut on my cnc machine, but looks like you beat me to it!! :cool

Epic Lego! Are you going to be doing some Pirates bigfigs?

No plan to do Pirates at this time. We are both Star Wars guys. So mostly Star Wars in the works. There will be an Indiana Jones, he is almost ready. I just finished the master for the whip and need to do the body graphics and his pistol master. Will post when ready. A batman is planned too. There are so many awesome ideas and so little time. We already have our wish list, just getting to it all will take a while.
