Best stuff to use and best place to buy for molds?

Can anyone wise on the subject tell me the best material for molding large pieces and casting them in plastic like materials? I am making a life size bust out of clay and need to cast it. It is an intricate figure, so the parts will be cast separately and glued together. I know RTV rubber would probably be best, but I know very little about this process so I am desparate for guidance... thanks.

Here's another one I found that shows you how to use a thin layer of silicone then using a mother mold. Plus several other molding techniques.
