I've decided to take apart my Harbor Freight mill and give it a good cleaning. I plan to do the same with my lathe at a later date, but right now the mill is in pieces on my living room floor.
I know lithuim grease is the preferred lubricant for the headstock gears and I've tried various oils for the rest of the moving parts. It's oil, so it always collects chaff, dust and cat hair.
I checked out littlemachineshop.com and came across Starrett's M1, a dry aerosol. Has anyone used this stuff? Is there anything similar available at a retail outlet?
Before I go to put the mill back together I'd like to hear some opinions from you guys. What have you used? What should I go with? And what should I avoid?
