I am an absolute fan of the new series Galactica and fell in love with the Pegasus. So much so that I figured my office needs a fancy table. I run a Monitoring Center so the atmosphere is perfect for one. I'm not professional prop maker, woodsmith by any stretch of the imagination; but that doesn't mean I don't like to get my hands dirty! Here is where I am at so far. It's not to scale or anything, but I do want to add all the little greebles on the sides of the table, and working phones as well. Maybe make some of the control panels functional, like control lighting or something.

I haven't worked on it for a while but I figured if I started posting here, It would motivate me to get it done. sooooo, here it is!

Very cool man, cant wait to see more pics. I too loved the series. mmmm boomer

Re: Battlestar Pegasus, CIC Table

Thanks,
for the top I was thinking of putting on a whiteboard so it would be a functional table at the workplace. Not too sure about the sides though; but i'm leaning towards putting a black or gray laminate. I need to double check my Razor DVD's to be sure. I think they were gray though. For the rubber pieces on the sides, I think if I can score the right kind of car floor mats I'll be in business. I just need some better shots of the phone, and of the various control panels.

I'm a huge fan of the series too, looking forward to the pics!

Re: Battlestar Pegasus, CIC Table

quick question for you guys. I've been contemplating on how to dress the table, but i've come across a problem. Specifically with the way i built the thing. There's alot of 2x4's along the "spine" of the table, and a couple more to hold the flare of the table.

So that being said, I wanted to put in a lightbox on the top like the show had, but due to construction it is impossible. I was wondering how difficult it would be to instead, use this as a core for a fiberglass table? What would be involved? I've worked with Fiberglass before, but not with plugs and the such. (car sound systems)

So how would I go about this? any thoughts and suggestions or links would be awesome, thanks!

P.S. my 100th post, yay!

Might look into White EL sheet costs and put the semi-transulcent white plexiglass over that. Laying up something that big in fiberglass by hand ain't going to be fun and it probably should be vacuum bagged unless you've got a fiberglass chopper-resin spray gun.

These should help a little bit. They are big so you should see the dials fairly well, sorry my ugly mug and my friend are in them...

Re: Battlestar Pegasus, CIC Table

Here's a 2 year old update coming at ya.
So the past couple of months saw me moving from my place to a smaller one, which meant I had to move a lot of my projects to my newly anointed "Man Cave," the table being one of them. For the longest time it's been sitting on it's side not doing much, but then my dad decided to rearrange the area breathed new life into my table!

Our new coffee/planning/entertainment table!

Now here's the current game plan for the table.

We're going to cover the top of the table with dry erase board. This will have the benefit of being able to sketch out ideas and what not, just like the show.

That computer monitor you see in the picture is actually a touchscreen from my jukebox. Right now it isn't getting much use so we're going to create an enclosure and mount it on a lazy Susan.

The purpose for the monitor you ask? Well we're going to install a computer in the base of the table along with a couple of speakers. So in addition to being a bad ass table, it'll be a multimedia table where we can gather to share projects, demonstrations, presentations, and listen to music.

On the flared sides we were thinking of mounting panels BSG style. Each side would have it's own wireless USB keyboard, mouse, and a panel for Audio inputs/outputs. We were also thinking of installing some RTA Analyzer panels for that added cool factor.

I'm glad my dad re-arranged everything, it's really given this project the boost it's been desperately needing for two years!

Here's another shot with some BSG Swag on top for effect, ignore the mess. :)--:thumbsup

Re: Battlestar Pegasus, CIC Table

GREAT idea!

Depending on how many 2x4s you have in the frame, I think you can easily add some smaller BSG screens and blinky lights.

Re: Battlestar Pegasus, CIC Table

Glad to see you're still on full swing with this one. :)
Thanks man, it's held up surprising well being stored in a Florida garage. Now that it's on display for visiting clients to see I just have to finish it now!

Appreciate the encouragement! I've got another idea involving a digital picture frame and a couple of Dradis screen caps :love

Re: Battlestar Pegasus, CIC Table

Happy to see new life in this project. I was hoping this was not one of those that faded off into the world of forgotten projects. Good job man!

With the amount of aggravation this table has brought unto me I would hope not! :lol Thanks man

Here's a bit of a weekend update!
Like I said the plan for the top of the table was to put a dry erase board so we can draw ideas, sketches, notes, etc. The problem that immediately sprung up was the cost of getting a dry erase board in that size, for some reason those bastards are expensive!

A quick google search, a trip to home depot and $13.00 later I came home with a monster 4'x8' dry erase board substitute. The awesome folks there were even able to cut it to the dimensions I wanted free of charge. :)-:thumbsup

Brought it back to the man cave and we made a template out of strips of Balsa wood and transferred it to the white board so we had a general idea of where to cut.

We ran blue painters tape across the cut areas to mitigate splintering and runaways. A couple of the passes with the circular saw later and we had that familiar shape!

We purposefully cut it just a tad too big around the edges so that we can later trim it for a perfect fit, but in the mean time we put some double sided tape on top of the table and laid the board on. I'm so happy to see some forward progress come out of this after 2 years. :cool-:thumbsup

Next item on the list are the flared sides. They need to be trimmed on the bottom so everything is even. We're planning on doing a dark grey melamine for the sides to round it off. We'll see how that goes!
