Batman Live cast costumes

I agree with NickyTea. These are designs to be seen form the cheap seat in an arena. These costumes are totally inspired by Carlos D'Anda's sketches for the Arkham Asylum game, right down to the poses they struck in the group shot.

Guys, remember, this is for theatre.
I think it looks pretty good. Nice mixture of influences.

Agree with NickyTea. There is a whole new set of rules for costumes when you actually have to perform in them! I have seen much worse.

Okay guys. I work in theatre. Stop talking out your backsides. This is mildy insulting and reads as "it's okay to suck, its just for theatre."

An awful design is an awful design. I could have done better than this in my sleep.
And as far as there being a "whole new set of rules" for theatrical costuming, well that's a sweeping generalization. Musical theatre is one where movement is a big issue. Yes, the costumes have to allow for your physical movements, but since its a spectacle, they also have to have a life of their own. Clothes should move in musical theatre. Fuller skirts, fuller capes, etc. And color! A good costume designer can do this without looking cheesy.

Yeah, not really at all what I meant.
I've made my living in theatre for the last five or six years. While not in the costume department, I'm not totally unfamiliar.

I wasn't meaning to insult these costumes, as they aren't aesthetically appalling to me personally. I think they look interesting. I was only saying that coming to judge these costumes based on what seems to be an expectation for a film-like design will always yield disappointment.

The cat costumes in CATS looked good. I wasn't particularly into it, but I admit they looked good.

These are halloween level stuff.

Batman looks like he's getting a prostate exam, the Joker is sporting a package and Robin looks like he came off the set of The Tudors but other than that, the rest look decent. Like the Penquin and Poison Ivy. I'd give them a C-.

This is for families, and especially geared for kids. I have no problem with the costumes, and we all need to take a step back and realize the fun factor for children here.

God, sometimes the people on this forum bore me with their negativity. Everyone relax.

Remember, NOTHING this show could do would ever suck as bad as Attack of the Clones.

No worries. Didn't mean to come off so hostile.

I do think that there's a happy medium. My mentor was a broadway costume designer, so I'm familiar with making film-worthy costume in theatre.

You'll take it! You'll take it and you'll like it buddy! :lol

i actually like the batman suit other than the belt. i think the mask in particular looks really nice. i am confused on why they chose movie influenced batman and robin costumes and comic book bad guys. in my oppinion, they should have just done all comic costumes, it just seems like it would make more sense. especiually since its geared twards kids.

While Robin looks influenced by the TDK suit, Batman is obviously the armor suit from the Arkham Asylum game. It is curios that they brightened up Harley's colors, but not Catwoman's.

Quoted for truth.

It's good to see the village people touring again ...

Batman's opening number to Robin:

"Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy.

Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to start to fight crime."

Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam.......

It's fun to stay at the B-A-T-CAVE!

My 20 cents:

Joker: Is it just me or does Joker look like someone was given a green paint pen, told to do pinstripes, got REALLY drunk, and went for it? The only part of his costume/makeup I like is his gloves.

Catwoman: She looks alright. As someone mentioned, costume a little baggy, but maybe she just got fitted before this promo pic? The design is pretty good.

Harley Quinn: The red and blue just make her look patriotic. I like that she's got the gimmicky hammer. But the costume is really bad.

Batman: What's up with the armor being shiny silver? Kinda hard to sneak around when you reflect every light source like a mirror. Also, as some one else mentioned, armor doesn't really match up with the rest of the cast's costumes.

Robin: Mask is all wrong. Weird thermal underwear/chainmaille stuff is weird. Random green spots on gloves. Armor looks a little silly. They did the cape alright at least.

Riddler: Doesn't look too bad. Looks like there is a weird seam or 3 that run across the chest of his suit though...

Penguin: Also pretty good. Except for the shiny/sparkly velvet tux jacket. WTF?

Poison Ivy: I prefer my Ivys to have flaming red hair and less of a tan, but that's just me. Costume looks alright except for the heels. If they're rockin' the naked look, she needs to be barefooted.

No one single costume is as bad as the collective impact. It looks like different designers were responsible for each costume. There's no consistent aesthetic. It's like a high school had a competition, and the winner for each character got the costume made.

I hate to say it, but this really looks like Batman the porno more than Batman the play.

Bats is looking cool, but needs a more matte color to his costume. Robin looks like a cross between a bobble head and a bell.

Joker has that 60s look, Bruce Willis is rocking Riddler, basically everyone except robin looks "ok". Bats is just way to damned shiny.
