Bane (Slow Build) TDKR black jacket

As soon as I saw the Dark Knight Rises I decided I had to do a Bane costume for myself.

I´m not tall at 5´9" but I have a broad back (I was kinda chubby at 220 pounds for my size) but I´ve been hitting the Insanity program and I´m now at a 195 pounds. I want to burn the fat before hitting the Gym and start pumping iron to bulk up to Tom Hardy´s size (No chemicals involved for me) but for the time being I started with the rite of passage and removed my shoulder length hair completely much to the dismay and anger of my wife (she was bummed for over a week) but I feel i look great bald and I look like 10 years younger LOL

I got a Gotham FX v1 on the way i got on a trade that I plan on modding to accuracy specs (It´ll get here next week) but I had this rubies child size mask I modded for the heck of it and last friday a buddy asked me to put it on with the military styled jacket I usually use for the office and this is how I look right now:

i think it´ll take me about 6 months to get to the physical size I want to use the no shirt under vest version of the costume (right now I have nothing for the costume) but all the while I´ll get the forearm strap guard, the pants and work on my boots. The vest I´ll get in about a month so the jacket will have to do for the time being.

it´s big and makes me look big enough.

we´ll see how this develops.

Ok... so I moved from the rubies crappy mask to a GCfx V1

this is how it looked like when I got it:

It was awesome for a few hours and then I needed to start modifying it for accuracy

I padded the thing, removed the outter-most tubes and sanded the surface where they where located and replaced them with more accurate tubing. This required to elevate the sidemost pipe connectors to the correct elevation on the nose. I made them with epoxy putty and glued the pipes in. The pipes by the way are made from hot glue bars cut in the right angles and then glued together by eating the angles and gluing the pieces in place and then gluing the pipes to the mask using E-6000.

the 4 dark tubes where made in the same fashion but I covered them with a fabric I had lying there that had a texture that reminded me of the texture on the movie ones. Not fully accurate but they get the job done.

I then molded the nose-scalp connector with epoxy putty and proceeded to repaint the entire mask:

the mask itself was Crooked as you ca all see in the pics without modifications but with the new padding it tightens enough as to correct itself on my face.

I still need to change the 4 central upper tubes (the teeth) on the maw to accurately shaped ones but so far the mask looks Way better!

I just hoped my body building could be accomplished faster! LOL

Last night I resculpted the 4 frontmost tubes (the teeth) I think the front of the mask now looks accurate enough.

Thanks guys. it's not fully accurate but it does the part. I will eventually change to a JP (hopefully) or something like that but for now it will have to do.

Here's a couple of pics of progress so far... I'm taking it slow guys. and I know the jacket is not accurate but it kinda looks like something Bane would have used at one time or the other. I will remove the patches to leave it full black. The cuffs and the back of the neck has loops in a clear khaki color that I will either dye black or remove.

I am still to receive the wristguard and buy the vest (will do that within the next 15 days) and my suede steeltoe combat boots are at the shoemaker's for extra modifications.

these where taken last night right after having received the pants and before I realized the kneepads could be removed and reattached at the right angle and with the plasctic pads point facing upwards.

I am 5'9" tall and weight 190 (was 211 a month ago). I have a natural broad back so that helps with the black jacket look but I started training in a gym about a month ago and I'm doing a lot of pushups at home. Will start pumping iron hard after october and will stop when I can pull the sewer fight scene look.

Any feedback will be welcomed but know that tis is a work in progress that I plan on finishing (at least costume-wise) in october.

cheers!

looks pretty good! i too got a gcfx mask and repainted it. the vest was a ***** tho. i might just have to post em aswell...

I really like the mods to your mask and the pipes, but I hate the way GCFX masks sit on the back of the head. Otherwise the costume is really strong.
