Back to the Future Remake

I heard about this last night from a guy who is usually reliable about upcomming movies and music...

I litterally would have made a thread asking if you guys had heard about it.

Luckily I escaped the double secret ban, many don't know this but it is a fate worse than death. Sorry Beachy!

And Shia is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better than Justin Beaver as a choice for any role.

But THIS is true...

Stalone wants Justin to be in the next expendables. It is a long way off but I have sources that say he has been in talks with his manager. Probably to be someones son... but just because he is such a big deal right now Sly wants him in the movie.

You gotta be kidding me... Hopefully hes a member of the "doomed family" that dies and drives one of the heroes, or a villain, over the edge of sanity and into madness.
 
Honestly, I will admit, I had ideas on what a remake of "Back to the Future" should be like, but I know better to have Justin Bieber as Marty. Granted, my ideas of having the Time Machine being a Ford Mustang and having both Olivia d'Abo and Billie Piper playing a female Doc Brown in two periods of times are bad, but having Bieber as Marty is three time worse than anything I could ever come up with.
 
The ONLY time I feel a remake of a movie is appropriate is if substantial improvements can be made in the areas of special effects, set and costume design and if the original is overwhelmingly outdated.
One example that comes to mind that fits the above criteria is The Wizard of Oz. Though a classic and still a very good film, a 'remake' would have the advantage of not only diverting from the musical format, but stay truer to the original book and substantially improve the sfx, sets and costumes.
Another example that is an old movie but still stands up even today is Gone with the Wind. No substantial improvements can be made in any of the areas mentioned above so GWTW does NOT need a remake.
In the case of BTTF, I also feel that no substantial improvements or updates can be made to freshen the movie for a modern audience. Just like The Breakfast Club, it's an 80's pop culture flick but focuses on the timeless character of the modern teenager.
What BTTF needs is a full theatrical re-release to introduce the films to the younger generation...and I wouldnt mind a plethora of new BTTF merchandise to go with it!

I don't find The Wizard of Oz to be outdated at all. Quite the contrary, I think it stands up fantastically.

For Wizard of Oz I wouldn't call making a non-musical version that was truer to the books a remake, that's an entirely different film. To actually try and remake WOO would be a terrible terrible idea.
 
I don't care if they remake it. If it's better than the original then that's cool. If it sucks than it makes the original all the much more better.

If I'm right (and I believe I am on this), I recall Bob Gale saying that he would not entertain the thought of any further BTTF sequels, or remakes. Doesn't he co-own the rights with Zemeckis? So, no green light from them, no dice.

The original Back to the Future film is one of those rare films that I tell everyone is pretty much a perfect film. Everything works, nothing is wasted, and everyone is on their A game. There isn't a single idea in my head that I can think of that would improve this movie if it were remade today.

Well said and now though there is no wide theatrical re-release in US (yet), there will be a screening of the movie at the We're Going Back event.

There is going to be a huge backlash if they do remake this as the franchise is one of the most beloved in the 80s. They could do it as a spin off or a sequel and get less flak but not a full remake.
 
Well, while we're on remaking classic '80's movies that don't need to be remade, let's throw in "Sixteen Candles" for example...

We could assemble a cast like this:

Miley Cyrus as Samantha Baker
Taylor Lautner as Jake Ryan
and Justin Beiber as "The geek"

Better yet, Michael Cera as The Geek...

Long Duc Dong is open to auditions... :lol

What's sad is the fact that it doesn't look half bad as a time machine though I'd have gone with the new new Dodge Challenger :lol
