Interest Back to the Future III - Walkie Talkie + Battery

3D printed resin end caps for the battery.

I will have a few of these ready to go soon, and I will also be listing a pair of the 60-4004 walkie talkies with battery.
60-4004s are the older model that is similar but not exactly the same as the screen-used 60-4014s.

The Burgess battery labels are now available on eBay and Etsy.

eBay: Back to the Future Part III - Burgess Battery - 3 Prop Labels for Walkie Talkies | eBay

Etsy: BTTF Part III Set of 3 Burgess Battery Vinyl Sticker Labels | Etsy

I should have a few of the complete battery kits available in (EDIT: AUGUST) This will include the finished battery with label, 2 3d printed resin terminal caps, 2 3d printed resin end caps for the battery, 2 wires, and 2 pieces of screen-accurate gaffer tape cut down to the correct size.

I may list a few of the battery kits as a pre-order. I have enough parts for about 14 of them currently.

I will have one pair of modified 60-4004 walkie talkies with my replica Burgess batteries available for sale in a few days. I'm going to post that set on eBay, and will create a Junkyard listing for it here. Because I used real radios for this set, it will cost more than the price that is listed in the first post for the resin copies that I eventually plan to offer.

The 60-4004 is the slightly older model that was made from different molds, so it has some minor differences when compared to the screen used version.

I sanded off the raised molded lettering, and both radios were repainted to better match the look of the original gray color of the 60-4014s. I added my silver replica stickers to the back as well. After 30+ years the plastic is beginning to discolor on many of these old radios, and the 4004s seem to have a darker gray plastic color than the 4014s.

I also drilled out some holes in the lower back corner for the wires to go into the battery compartment. I did this so the wires have somewhere to go (and fit properly) without just having loose ends stuck behind the tape. These holes will be filled, sanded, and repainted gray after the wires are added. That area will also be covered by the gaffer tape when the battery is attached, so any remaining evidence the modification will not be obvious.

Unfortunately, my good friend, who recently helped me to finish the wood and metal parts for the Burgess batteries, died unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm two weeks ago. Because of this, no more than 14 of the Burgess batteries will be available from this run. I may offer more of them at some later date, but I do not currently know of anyone else who can make additional battery parts for me right now.

So sorry to hear of your loss mate, Sending you good vibes! Thanks for the update super keen for when they are ready :)

The 3d printed resin battery terminal caps turned out perfectly.

I removed the parts from the supports, sanded and filed any extra material from the base of the parts, and painted them an acrylic matte black color with my airbrush.

I'm getting everything ready to put together now. The batteries are complete and assembled. I finished the permanent attachment of the wires to the bottom corner of the radios, then filled, sanded, and repainted the area to blend everything in properly. All of the raised text was sanded off the radios. There is still a very slight remnant of the raised lettering on the front of one of them, but it will not be visible under the tape.
