Not much into TV except a one or two shows, but actually looking forward to this. I really don't think they had to remake the series. What's wrong with Hawaii Five-O with new characters?

I only pray it's not going to be "CSI-Honolulu". :sick

One thing is for certain...I will be extremely homesick afterward.

From what Ive seen, the show bares very little resemblance to the original. (Aside from the music and setting)
It looks more like your typical modern day TV action show, rather than a detective show.
And apparently Kono is no longer a big hawaiian dude, but a pint sized surfer girl.
That in mind, I don't really have high hopes for this show...But we'll see.

Im glad they kept the original theme music though.

I grew up with the original, but I have very low expectations for this, based on the previews.

I say it'll be cancelled by Christmas, with three unaired episodes saved for the dvd release.

Who approves this crap?

Couldn't finish watching it.

McGarrett and Dano fighting all of the time was exhausting. Very childish writing. blah.

I totally missed it tonight.

Was it that bad?

For me, yes. Everything I feared it would be but I am sure they have a new audience. Again, I would probably be more forgiving if they decided to just do a continuation of the franchise. It didn't have to be the same characters. Law and Order did well just adding new characters to continue their long running and successful series.

Lot's of machine guns, McGarret was arrogant and cocky and he and Dano were reluctant partners. Then you have the misfits Chin Ho (outed from the OPD for being accused of being a dirty cop) and Kona, a tough surfer girl who is about to graduate the police academy.

Has subtle elements of the CSI series (enhanced, saturated color).

Well, Law and Order succeeded so well because it maintained the same structure and quality the whole way through. THey didn't try to reinvent the premise, they just got new faces to fill the roles.
(Ive been meaning to buy L&O on DVD, but it's kind of hard to plunk down money for 20+ seasons.)

I really miss the old Hawaii Five-0.
I used to watch that show all the time as a kid.

Not OPD, HPD.

Ill pass on this one saw the trailer and thought it was a piece of garbage.
Hated the look of it, looks like they are trying to make McGarrett and Dan O buddies. Another trashing of a classic by (Follywood).

Terrible idea in my opinion.

Did'nt surprise me, the only thing this abomination shares with its predecesor is the Name.

Sounds like "Generic Buddy Cop Dramaction Show + Branding." Standard operating procedure in Hollywood today: take an otherwise totally generic concept and dress it in the branding of a well known name, then reap the benefits. Works pretty well with movies, not so well with TV shows.

I thought it was OK but too rushed for a storyline. Of course it was a PILOT. It would have been better if they premiered it as a 2-hour special followed by the series. Better opportunity to develop the characters and allow James Marsdan more screen time. He is a great villain.

Hopefully they will develop a bridging storyline (which I thought Marsdan's villain would be throughout the season) and get into some character and set developments. Like how they came to be located at Iolani Palace, etc.

Besides WHO wouldn't continue to watch Grace Park get into skimpy outfits TWICE in one hour! NICE!

Really? I guess im a little out of the loop on the whole cop buddy thing but I liked it. Good action, a few funnies and it wasnt CSI! I did notice the orange filter and dont care for the Battlestar Galatica chick. Another thing I liked was the bad guy was shot in the end. It didnt turn into "who killed my father" subplot.

Now if only they brought back Miami Vice...........

One of the things that bugs me about the new Five-O is that there aren't any locals in the main cast. With the original, the guy that played Chin Ho was former HPD, and Kono was a big Hawaiian dude (not some sexy Asian chick that I love seeing in a bikini!). That brought a sense of authenticity to the show.

What's even more funny to me is that to give Daniel Dae-Kim's Chin Ho "street cred", they made his character a former quarterback at Kahuku High School. No one on that team looks like that. They're pretty much all Samoans and Haole (and before anyone jumps on me for that phrase, I'm part Haole). Maybe in Aiea or Pearl City he'd be a quarterback, but not bloody Kahuku.

And the local newspapers have been profiling this like it was the second coming of ******. Everyday, Hawaii Five-O is back, are you ready? type of stories.

I'm a little biased against it, if you couldn't tell. But if it does take off, I hope that it gives local actors a chance to shine, and not just in the background.

Oh, and DH, if you ever do make it home, look me up.

I friggin loved it. By the time Williams says "What do you want me to do with this one?" the whole audience knew the answer.
