Attaching the Tie to the Yavin Medal

Anybody got a hint on how these were attached? I have one of Steve's medals & got the british wool tie - (Sucker is SCRATCHY!) I see the three holes in the top of the medal - looks like some screws go there - so anybody got any inside info on how the originals went together?

The screws go through the tie into the medal (center screw goes through both ends of tie). Tie ends are then folded over and sewn.

Shesh - That's it? I was figuring a little metal bar or something for the screws to pass through and hold the tie down. Thanks LoneP - Any idea what kind of screws?

There could be a little bar I suppose, but it's not visible in any pics.
I only see fabric folded under and sewn. Could be some glue in there.

No idea what type of screws.
I was just going to find some small brass ones to fit.
The holes in the casting seem big. I was considering gluing in some small threaded inserts.

I believe there has to be a bar which structurally sandwiches the tie to the medal top. The bar would keep the tie flat, and from lifting in the center of the medal.

Everyone here probably knows it, but there are metal screws with a specific threading for plastic. I have picked screws up for other projects from a cold fastener supply house similar to a company called Fastenal.

I never picked up on the fact that the back side of the tie was hemmed around the bar. That's really cool. Thanks Chris!

I've got the same casting and tie and have been thinking about finishing it. I have a few questions about finishing this prop as well:

What size screws did you use to attach the tie?

Did you tap the holes beforehand?

When attaching the tie, did you end up sewing the ends so the medal hangs properly as seen in the screenshot above?

What color of gold paint have you found works best for finishing the medal?

Thanks!
