Art Asylum scores with 1701 Enterprise

The Art Asylum TOS Enterprise just arrived and I love this thing. I thought their phaser was the best $12 toy ever, and now for $30, I have a 1701 with lights and sound.

When you push the bridge, you have 5 different sounds and sayings from "red alert" to phaser fire.

I love mine as well, but don't expect that stand to last forever. Mine came cracked and now the ship will not stay on. Where the ball joint links to that "cup" at the bottom of the ship, that blue housing has fracture points and fails a lot. Keep an eye open, wouldn't want your ship to fly for real. I have the nx,1701, a and e and love them all. Great find at a fantastic price!!

I must admit that the stand is kind of flimsy. One of the "extra miles" they went for this was to include a second battery hatch without the hole for the stand. So if you wanted to display it in another way, you could.

I also like that the button is the bridge, and not a separate switch that would distract from the lines.

I just wish they had added light to the rear of the nacells for that "impulse engine look.

$30 sure beats anything else on the market.

If you hold the button down for five seconds, the lights will stay on continuously as well.

what is the stand made out of? just plastic? someone could make a resin replacement?

Yes, the stand is plastic. It has a swivel mount so that you can pose your enterprise at any angle, not just horizontal. It is a little wobly due to the heavy model sitting on a single point.

A heavier base would probably help. I may make one out of billet aluminum.

Here is my solution to the flimsy plastic stand. I traced the outline of the original stand onto a 3/4" thick piece of oak. I used a scroll saw to cut it out and then routed the edge and applied a finish. I put some felt pads on the bottom of the stand as well. I drilled a hole for the aluminum rod and then machined the rod to fit the hole in the bottom of the enterprise. Nice and sturdy and looks better than the plastic stand.

Nice job on the stand, its kinda funny that this threat just came back, my stand, just broke, the ball and socket joint broke apart and the enterprise came in for a landing, I think I might whip up something like you have above.

Woah woah woah... wait a minute. Where did you find an AA phaser for 12 bucks? I haven't actually bought one just b/c I don't know who actually sells them. I refuse to pay 15 dollars for shipping a 20 dollar item.

Thanks! I may make another and try making the base even larger so it will be even more stable. Took me about an hour or so from start to finish. An easy project for anyone with prop building skills.

yeah i got the playmates one sittin on the entertainment center myself. i think its pretty cool along with my AA phaser, and my communicator.

my comm. is supposed to be off the molds MR made theirs from.

Please clarify something for me.

AA is making 3 models?

the WNMHGB
and TOS
i know the TOS model and the one with the larger bridge and spikes on the nacells.
