Face seems too wide and the eyes too small and the nose a little too short, but that's a really good start!:eek

I agree with they eyes... they seem a little bit too small heightwise. the mouth also seems to be a bit wide when comparing the sculpt to the pic

The mouth needs to angle slightly downward. Remember, a human face is rarely perfectly symmetrical - it's that subtle dissymmetry (is that a word?) that lends our art a sense of realism.

I would personally ditch the hair, work with him bald. The hair's just going to get in the way, although it looks like you just slapped it on for a sense of proportion.

The cheekbones need to be more defined, and the eyes need to be extruded (brought out, not so sunken). Notice how the sword hilt arches there? So does his forehead/eyebrows.

I'll also second the wideness - his hair gives his face the impression of being wider in the movie picture, but it's actually deceptive. So sculpting the perceived wide face results in a skewed sense of proportion.

However, it's an excellent start. Much better than anything I've tried to do at this point. :lol

Try photoshopping the real picture over the sculpture with varying levels of opacity, you'll see pretty quickly where things need to change. More reference is good.

Lips are wrong - too pursed.

Agreed on the hair - lose it (beard and all).

Reminds me of someone else but I can't pull the name right off... JC maybe...

Suggestion: Work from photos of Viggo, not of Aragorn.

Thanks sooo much guys..it's really a biiiig help..i'll post pics of the updates..thank you sooo much for your time..=)

You may already be doing this but you need to be using lots of different reference so you can compare in different lighting and at different distances and angles. :)

Using shots from a film such as GI Jane would probably help you a lot as reference - clean cut military look. You can get the head shaped correctly that way, get the face sculpted right before the beard is added. The beard is very thin and shouldn't add much bulk for this character. Nice start - keep up the good work! This is one of my favorite characters and a sculpt I've always intended to give a try for myself. Looking forward to seeing your results!

It's probably photoshopped, but on the production still he looks like he's sucking in his cheeks, which gives more definition to the cheekbones. Sort of brings the cheekbone to chin area into an upside down triangle.

And it's a personal preference of mine but sculped hair is so hard to get right. I would use the suggestion of using grabs from GI Jane and seeing about having hair added on if at all possible.

Course... I say this knowing full well that I can't sculpt a sphere... :lol

Agreed. Also notice how his right eye, or left as we look at him, has a smooth arc shape, while the other has... almost a wing shape. Does that make sense?
