Anyone know where to get a cast of a woman's hand?

Had a friend ask me about making a wooden hand as a trophy of a spriggan in Skyrim.

I think it'd be an interesting challenge, but I suck at sculpting, so I was hoping to cheat a bit and start with a hand casting and just add on/alter from there.

Anyone have any ideas on where to get a casting of a woman's hand? I thought about a mannequin hand but they are a bit too small overall, and i'd have to mod the crap out of it before I started in on the actual detail work.

Just curious. No big hurry on it, just one of those idle thoughts for upcoming projects.

Try a second hand store:lol:lol:lol

Failing that, a prosthesist - the folk who do artificial limbs - may be able to help. A lot of the time in the initial stages of training yourself to wear a prosthetic limb, you have a rigid one (some have bendy fingers like a doll) that is life size, before moving on to the more expensive and fancy ones with robot fingers. Many years ago there was a place near me that used to make arms and legs for prosthetics and any that were faulty, not quite right or got damaged were tossed. They threw out about 50 feet arms and hands in a week, sometimes used ones that were just too small or had been outgrown by the wearer. Most were made out of a hard foam like expanding foam with a plastic/fibreglass outer layer.

Might be worth a shot. Most bigger hospitals have one on staff, would pay to make a few calls.

:lol horrible, horrible pun.

I would attempt to mold/cast a hand from a friend, but I just thought it'd be cheaper to go the cast route. I was thinking artist model or something maybe.

Did not consider prosthetics though... I think I have some skins from a medical supply purchase about a decade ago. Some wire and expanding foam might work out for that...

Hmm...

Don't know if you've considered this route, but have you thought of the jewelry display hands? Some are god awful and deformed while some are quite realistic. Run an image search for ring display hands. Hopefully there's something you could use.

My wife just had an idea. Mannequin hands. Check out the local stores and see if they're tossing out some old displays, you might get one for free :) Failing that see if e-bay can help.

Check the first post :)

Awesome idea on the jewelry display hands though, just had someone else recommend that as well. I'm kinda hesitant though because the palm area is incredibly thin and small on those.

Why would that be cheating Chris ? Mold / cast a real one.

One of the biggest triumphs and pride here on the board is to have something CFO :lol

Had a few bits from here, worked well, he does male and female hands, just message him to check they are in stock

My dad once had a vintage mannequin (left from a movie shoot, but it was a clothing mannequin) and the hands on that were not unnaturally small.
The mannequin was probably made in the '50s or '60s, so it was relatively tall and full, not like the anorectic-supermodel-with-implants mannequins of today.
The skin surface was completely smooth, though, so it might not be a good starting point for that reason.
